Bentota sits about 60 km south of Colombo, where the Bentota River meets the Indian Ocean, and its hotels fall into two broad types. Along the beach side — Pitaramba Road, the Galle Road strip and the sandbar between the river mouth and the sea — you'll find beach resorts and guest houses with direct access to one of the west coast's longest, widest beaches. Inland along the river and lagoon are villas, small residences and boutique stays surrounded by garden and mangrove, closer to river safaris and water sports. Induruwa, just south, adds quieter beachfront villas. Bentota is also one of Sri Lanka's main Ayurveda-resort areas.
