Colombo's hotel market splits cleanly into three tiers: the harbourside five-stars (Cinnamon Grand, Galle Face, Shangri-La, Hilton) that command sea-view premiums, mid-range business hotels around Union Place and Colombo 3 catering to regional travellers, and a growing number of boutique guest houses in Cinnamon Gardens that compete on character rather than amenities. The list below ranks Colombo hotels by what guests wrote after checkout — service consistency, sound insulation, and breakfast quality tend to separate the top tier from the rest more than star count does. Most hotels south of the Beira Lake offer easy access to Galle Face Green and the major restaurant clusters; those further north (Pettah, Fort) are convenient for early-morning departures from the train station. For long stays, several of the listed properties offer monthly rates if you ask directly.

Frequently asked

What's the highest-rated hotels in Colombo?
La Mirage Banquet Hall is currently the highest-rated hotels in Colombo on Review Guru, with an average of 4.9 out of 5 stars from 15 reviews.
Which hotels in Colombo has the most reviews?
La Mirage Banquet Hall is the most-reviewed hotels in Colombo with 15 customer reviews. A higher review count typically means a more reliable signal — a 4.5★ rating from 50 reviewers is stronger than a 5★ rating from 3.
How many hotels are listed in Colombo?
Review Guru has 15 hotels listed in Colombo, aggregating 94 customer reviews across them. We only include a business on a "best of" page once it has at least 3 reviews so the ranking is meaningful.
How are these hotels ranked?
We use a Bayesian-weighted average score that combines the business's own star rating with the volume of reviews it has received. This prevents a single 5-star review from outranking 30 consistent 4-star reviews. Read more on our methodology page.
Are the reviews verified?
Reviews on Review Guru come from two sources: native submissions written directly on our platform, and imported reviews from Google Maps that we rewrite for clarity while preserving the original rating, sentiment, and named entities. Source is tagged on each review for transparency.
Which neighbourhood in Colombo is best for first-time visitors to stay in?
Colombo 3 (Kollupitiya) and Colombo 4 (Bambalapitiya) put you within a short tuk-tuk ride of Galle Face Green, ODEL, and most of the well-known restaurants. Colombo 7 (Cinnamon Gardens) is quieter and leafier — better if you prefer residential streets over hotel strips.
Are airport transfers usually included with Colombo hotels?
Most five-star hotels include or offer paid airport transfers (Colombo airport is about 35 km north, in Katunayake). Mid-range and boutique properties usually arrange a transfer for you but bill it separately. Either way, confirm at booking — surge pricing for airport taxis is common after 11 PM.
