    Disappointing Patient Management

This ENT clinic is located in the Jaffna Teaching Hospital. Today, as a new patient, I received number 1. While the service provided by the doctors is quite satisfactory, the patient management leaves much to be desired. After being examined by the doctor, I was advised to schedule my surgery, but then I ended up waiting for nearly two hours. There needs to be a better system for handling patients who arrive early. When I spoke to the nurses, they informed me that I could only get a date after the doctor had seen all the patients. I arrived at 6:30 AM, and by now it's almost 10 AM. This kind of poor management encourages people to seek care at private hospitals. Those with financial means can go private, but what about those who can't? Although the facilities and doctor services are quite good, the management of patients is lacking. The management should create a better plan for handling patients, considering that everyone has other responsibilities besides focusing on their health.

    Top hospital in Jaffna town

Situated in the heart of Jaffna town, this is the premier hospital in the northern province and ranks among the best in Sri Lanka. They offer nearly all specialty services and provide quality care to the community. The facility is very clean, and all investigations are conducted on-site. Patients receive excellent attention here.

    Poor experience at the hospital

I’m from Trinco and recently visited this hospital. My sister was in labor, and I had to stay overnight since her baby was being born there. Unfortunately, there wasn’t an extra bed for the caretaker or even a blanket to keep warm during the chilly midnight hours. While the staff spoke nicely, I didn’t feel like there was much genuine care. Additionally, there was no map available, so I had a hard time finding my way around the hospital. The food in the canteen was disappointing and not fresh at all. I hope my concerns are taken seriously and addressed. I’m giving one star for this experience.

Essential healthcare in Northern Sri Lanka

Jaffna Teaching Hospital stands out as a major government hospital in Northern Sri Lanka, offering vital medical services to the community. It features a variety of departments, including emergency care, surgery, maternity, and pediatrics. Additionally, it plays a significant role as a training ground for medical students from the University of Jaffna. The commitment of the staff is evident, and despite facing high patient volumes and limited resources, many individuals receive quality care. However, similar to other government hospitals, patients might experience long wait times and overcrowding. Improvements in cleanliness and infrastructure are noticeable. All in all, this hospital is an essential healthcare resource for the Northern Province.

    Top government hospital in Jaffna

This hospital offers free health care services provided by the government and stands out as the leading hospital in the Jaffna district. The outpatient department (OPD) tends to be quite crowded most of the time. It's located right in the heart of Jaffna, with the main entrance on Hospital Road. There's also an entrance from Power House Road, which provides the easiest access to the morgue and a few other wards.

    Busy hospital with long waits

Teaching Hospital Jaffna is situated near Jaffna town, close to the Cargills building. It’s one of the largest hospitals in the northern province. It tends to be crowded, and I often found myself waiting in line. The services were not great, unfortunately.

    Major Hospital in Jaffna District

This is one of the largest tertiary care hospitals in Sri Lanka and the biggest in the Jaffna district. It offers a wide range of specialties and subspecialties, including NET, Eye, Orthopaedic, Neurosurgery, Cardiology, Cardiothoracic surgery, Urology, Gastroenterology, and Neonatology, among others. The hospital is fairly clean, although it can get quite crowded, especially during daytime and clinic hours. Being a teaching hospital, you may encounter medical and nursing students in certain units. They provide 24/7 service, complete with an active Accident & Emergency department and resuscitation unit.

Good service, but maternity ward issues

This is the largest hospital in the Northern province, and it maintains a good standard. The service is excellent, from the surgeons to the support staff, and most doctors are quite compassionate. However, I did notice some problems; in one part of the maternity ward, pregnant women were sleeping on the floor, while another section had plenty of available beds.

    Outstanding care with educational value

Teaching Hospital Jaffna is truly one of the most dedicated hospitals in the country. The doctors and staff consistently go the extra mile, often putting in overtime to ensure that patients get the best care possible. Beyond their excellent medical services, the hospital features a medical museum that is intriguing for anyone interested in the history of medicine in Sri Lanka. It offers an educational insight into medical tools, practices, and the historical evolution of healthcare in the region. Although the hospital can get quite busy due to the high number of patients, the commitment and professionalism of the staff really shine through. All in all, Teaching Hospital Jaffna is an essential institution that provides not only outstanding healthcare but also a unique educational opportunity through its medical museum.

    Efficient staff but hygiene concerns

The hygiene left a lot to be desired, but the staff were incredibly efficient and managed to keep things running smoothly, even with the long wait times and limited resources. I had confidence in the doctors' expertise; my surgeon was delightful, comforting, and performed excellently. I feel fortunate to have received treatment at this hospital.
