    Extremely Poor Hospital Experience

This is the worst hospital I've ever been to! They even have the audacity to ask for payment throughout their services! The waiting time is outrageous; I got there at 6:40 PM and didn't see the doctor until 9:30 PM. The restrooms are filthy for a hospital, and most alarmingly, there is no hand disinfectant available anywhere!

Good healthcare with room for improvement

This hospital serves as a solid healthcare option for the area. The doctors I’ve seen are very professional, attentive, and pay great attention to detail. That said, there are a couple of management areas that could use some improvement: 1. The parking situation is quite poor and often challenging, leading to inconvenience for patients and visitors. 2. When it comes to ultrasound data accessibility, this hospital falls short compared to many others in Colombo. Here, ultrasound exams do not come with raw imaging data (like on a CD or secure digital media). In today’s world, AI tools can analyze such raw medical imaging data to uncover subtle findings, enhance diagnostic accuracy, and assist in predictive analysis. Relying solely on written reports and static screenshots limits these capabilities. Furthermore, medical imaging data inherently belongs to the patient, who should have the right to access their full diagnostic data. Providing raw ultrasound data would foster transparency, allow for second opinions, and empower patients to make more informed healthcare decisions. Improving these areas would greatly boost patient experience, diagnostic quality, and alignment with contemporary healthcare standards.

    Great services but parking issues

The only downside is the parking situation; otherwise, the services are quite impressive. Occasionally, their hotline may not be answered. The hospital is spacious and has various specialists on staff. The new interior design is attractive and not intimidating at all. It tends to get busy in the evenings since many consultants are available then. Additionally, the management has added TVs in the patient waiting area.

I had a 4pm appointment, but I ended up waiting for 2 hours and 30 minutes without seeing Dr. Sutharsan. I was informed that he was at the main Jaffna hospital attending to some urgent care.

    Disappointment with Appointment Delays

I am writing to express my frustration over the long wait for today’s consultant appointment at 2:00 PM. We’ve been waiting for over an hour to see the doctor, and there are many other patients in the same situation. We chose your private hospital expecting better service than what we’ve experienced in government hospitals, but this isn’t the first time we’ve faced such delays, which is quite disappointing. I kindly ask you to take this matter seriously and implement necessary changes to ensure that appointments run on time, allowing patients to receive the service they expect and deserve. Thank you for your attention.

    Large hospital with high costs

This is one of the larger private hospitals in Jaffna, offering numerous facilities for patient care. It has a spacious parking area close to the hospital. However, the expenses for treatment here are quite steep.

    Disappointing Experience Overall

The prices are quite high, but the service leaves much to be desired. In cases of serious issues, they recommended transferring the patient to Jaffna Teaching Hospital. Additionally, the bathrooms were not clean.

Disappointing experience at Northern Central Hospital

I want to express my profound disappointment with my experience at Northern Central Hospital while seeking clarification for my sister, who is six months pregnant and under Dr. J. Kajendran’s care. My sister has a medical complication that requires hospital admission and iron injections, so I went in for a professional consultation to ensure her treatment was progressing correctly. Upon arrival, the clinical assistant instructed me to pay the appointment fee of Rs. 2800. I complied, received appointment number 20, and waited for two hours. When my turn finally came, I was unexpectedly informed that the appointment was cancelled because the doctor does not see private clinic patients who are admitted to the General Hospital. While I understand that doctors have busy schedules, I believe it’s important to address some ethical and logical issues here: The Value of Time - Just as a doctor's time is precious, so is the public's time. I had set aside significant professional commitments, including a Zoom meeting and a scheduled class, to prioritize this medical inquiry. Losing two hours due to an administrative error is not just a minor inconvenience; it represents a loss of resources and productivity. The Necessity of Early Screening - If a doctor has specific criteria for whom they will see, this should be communicated at the first point of contact. Allowing someone to pay and then wait for hours before checking eligibility is a clear failure of basic hospital administration. Mental and Emotional Toll - Managing a high-risk pregnancy is already a stressful time for families. Being misled and then dismissed after a long wait adds unnecessary mental strain and exhaustion to an already tough situation. Ethics Over Infrastructure - A hospital may grow in size and reputation, but its true value lies in how it treats its patients. "Valuing the person" should take precedence over expanding the building. We are all human beings with responsibilities, and a medical institution should embody empathy, not just transactions. I was able to get my money back, but I can't recover my time, lost work, or the peace of mind I lost today. I'm sharing this not to damage anyone's reputation, but as a heartfelt request for the hospital and its staff to rethink their protocols. Please value the people you serve.

    Outstanding Care at Northern Hospital

I recently underwent a Myomectomy at Northern Hospital, and I couldn't be more grateful. A huge thank you to Prof. Raguraman (vog) and Ms. Luxmi for their exceptional care, clear instructions, and warm support. I also want to express my appreciation for the two nurses, Neruka (OT) and Jensika (Surgical ward), who were by my side during the procedure. Their professionalism and attention made me feel secure. The entire hospital staff was incredibly supportive throughout my stay. I wholeheartedly recommend Northern Hospital. Thanks to the entire team!

    Good care, slow billing process

Overall, the care and service here are commendable, with no issues concerning the doctors or nursing staff. However, the billing process is quite sluggish, even when the place isn't busy. A significant issue is the lack of clarity regarding the costs of medications and consumables. Typically, the bill presents a total, but it lacks a detailed breakdown showing each drug, its quantity, and individual price. The fees for doctor's consultations, scans, and other services seem fair given the quality of care received. It’s advisable for patients to request a clear explanation of drug and consumable charges prior to payment, as there’s a chance of being billed for items that weren't actually used. On a positive note, the nurses demonstrate genuine care and professionalism, while the doctors offer excellent treatment. I want to highlight Dr. Ajantha, the neurologist, who is exceptional and highly skilled. Her expertise and dedication to patient care are remarkable. Nother Central is undoubtedly a valuable resource for the Northern community! 🙌
