    Unprofessional Treatment at Speech Therapy

A few months ago, I scheduled multiple appointments with Dr. Yvonne S. K. Weerasinghe, a speech therapist. Each time, my parents arrived early but ended up waiting over an hour for her to show up, even though there were only one or two appointments on those days. On the last visit, my parents got there on time and saw that the doctor was already in the office. The nurse told them to wait until called. However, after over 15 minutes without any call, the doctor came out and loudly questioned my parents about why they hadn’t entered. My mother calmly explained that they were waiting for permission, as they had been told. The doctor then told us not to argue and spoke rudely. Overall, there was a complete lack of respect for scheduled times, and her conduct was consistently unprofessional. This is particularly troubling given my father's serious illness, which makes stressful situations difficult for him. Such treatment is unacceptable for both patients and their families, especially since we were paying for these services. Honestly, I was relieved to not be there during that incident, as I would have found it intolerable to see anyone disrespect my parents.

    Unpleasant experience at Nawaloka

Nawaloka used to be quite efficient, but my visit today was disappointing. Despite having made a 10am appointment, there was poor communication regarding delays and the number displays. I ended up waiting nearly three hours while feeling unwell. On a positive note, the doctor was very professional and the facilities were clean. However, it took six people at the pharmacy to check the same prescription before my medication could be issued. I really hope management addresses these easily fixable issues to restore their usual standards.

    Poor Service Overshadows Good Doctor

The service at the cashier was extremely lacking, with long, slow lines that led to frustrating delays. There was no effective system in place to guide patients, and no staff member to help manage or direct the queues. I saw several patients waiting a long time only to be redirected to a different line or location at the counter. This situation could have been improved with better queue management and a dedicated staff member for guidance. The pediatric appointment area is even more troubling. It’s overcrowded, disorganized, and not suitable for infants and young children. With so many children close together, the risk of coughing and potential infections is a serious concern. Basic hygiene practices were clearly inadequate — sanitizer stations were empty, and there were no visible air purification or germ-control measures. Moreover, the baby feeding area is cramped and lacks a comfortable or private environment for mothers and infants, which is quite disappointing. On a positive note, I want to mention that the doctor was excellent — very caring, attentive, and professional. Such high-quality medical care deserves to be matched by better service and facilities.

    Ambulance Lacked Essential Supplies

The ambulance was completely unprepared, lacking any medicines. My dad endured unnecessary suffering until we reached Nawaloka in Colombo, all because the ambulance was out of supplies. It makes no sense to charge us thousands when basic requirements aren't met. Aside from the doctors, nothing else in this place is satisfactory. We ended up paying 28,000 for an ambulance that had nothing on board, putting lives at risk. Had we known, we would have just taken our dad in our own vehicle. The management is clearly poor.

    Outstanding Service from Lakshi

I want to give a shout-out to a staff member named Lakshi who was at the New Building counter area. Last Sunday, I took my father for a PSA test. While I was discussing payment with the cashier, Lakshi overheard us and came over to assist. She let me know about a discount available at their newly opened lab in front of the Base Hospital. She even went the extra mile to call the staff there to verify the offer and suggested that I go there. Thanks to her help, I saved nearly Rs. 5,000. I truly appreciate her service because helping me wasn't part of her responsibilities, yet she went out of her way to ensure I got the discount. Thank you, Lakshi, for your wonderful and thoughtful service.

Exceptional Psychiatric Care in Sri Lanka

Dr. Shanika Medagama, the psychiatrist in room 404 on the fourth floor, has provided me with the best care I've encountered in all of Sri Lanka. I've had three sessions with her, and I plan to see her every two months. It's hard to find someone as professional, kind, and motivating as she is in this country. The fee is 4800 LKR. As a person dealing with BPD and agoraphobia, I appreciate the spacious environment that isn’t crowded. The waiting area features comfortable soft leather seats and several large flat-screen TVs showing funny videos, which really helps ease my anxiety. I highly recommend booking an appointment with her; you won't regret it.
