Pleasant stay at Morven Hotel

I recently stayed at Morven Hotel Colombo and it turned out to be a better experience than I anticipated. From the moment I arrived, the staff were welcoming, the rooms were tidy and well-organized, and despite being in a bustling area, the atmosphere was quite peaceful. Breakfast was decent, service was prompt, and the staff checked in on us without being intrusive. All in all, it was a comfortable stay that provided great value and a hassle-free experience. I will definitely return.

Caution Advised for Future Guests

We booked this hotel via Agoda, specifically requesting a smoking room with a double bed. However, at check-in, we were given a room in terrible condition. Instead of a proper double bed, there were two single beds pushed together. There were no drinking glasses or mini fridge, and the bathroom was very small and not hygienic. The bedsheets were dirty, and the overall cleanliness of the room was lacking. Despite these issues, we spent the night there. The major problem arose at check-out when the staff unexpectedly demanded an extra LKR 10,000 penalty, accusing us of smoking in the bathroom. We explained that we had clearly requested a smoking room in our reservation. It was only then that we learned the hotel doesn’t actually offer smoking rooms. If that was the case, we should have been informed at check-in, but there was no communication about this. Initially, the staff claimed no smoking room was requested. After we showed our booking confirmation, they changed their story to say there was a 'No Smoking' sign in the room. We told them there was no such sign. They took a long time to 'check,' which raised significant doubts. We asked the manager to accompany us to the room. There was indeed no smoking sign anywhere. Only after this did they apologize. If we hadn’t gone back to verify, we would have been wrongfully charged. What’s even more disappointing is that despite being in a well-known area, this hotel seems to operate in a way that risks unfair charges or penalties for guests. This experience felt more like an attempt to exploit guests rather than offer hospitality. This hotel demonstrates poor management, a lack of transparency, and unprofessional behavior. One of my worst hotel experiences. I highly recommend caution for future guests.

Convenient stay near US embassy

I chose Morven since it was the nearest hotel to the US embassy for an early morning interview, not expecting outstanding service. However, at this price, Morven exceeded my expectations. The service was very good, with friendly and helpful staff from the receptionist to room service throughout our stay. The rooms are well-maintained and modern. Within the hotel, there's a restaurant, a rooftop bar, and a barista. If you need a place to stay to ensure you're on time for your US visa interviews, Morven is the ideal choice, just a 2-minute walk from the embassy. Definitely worth the price!

Morven Colombo enjoys a prime location, surrounded by numerous embassies and major government offices. It's also just a short walk or quick drive from the shore, making beach access easy. Key presidential buildings and notable landmarks are nearby, enhancing the area’s significance. The surroundings appear secure and well-kept. The rooms are cozy, suitable for both business trips and short leisure visits. Hospitality is adequate, with staff being generally polite and attentive. Overall, it’s a solid choice for travelers who prioritize location over luxury, making it a good option for official visits or brief stays in central Colombo.

Great Upgrade with Beautiful Views

I had initially reserved a Superior King City View room, but they kindly upgraded me to a Superior Sea View, which was fantastic. The room itself is basic but spacious, boasting a breathtaking view of the sea. Both the room and the bathroom were clean. Unfortunately, I encountered an issue with the hot water during my stay, and the absence of a mini fridge was a bit of a hassle. On the bright side, free Wi-Fi was provided, and the room featured a large smart TV, which was a nice touch. All in all, it was a decent stay, primarily thanks to the amazing view.

Disappointing stay with cleanliness issues

This place does not live up to a 4-star hotel. There was an unpleasant odor throughout the floors, and our room had an even stronger smell akin to ammonia. The bedsheets and towels were visibly dirty, and the wallpaper was peeling off the walls. There were numerous other concerns as well.
