I spent a week at Hotel Rockwell Colombo and I can say that it doesn’t truly qualify as a 4-star hotel by any reasonable measure. Here are some key points to consider if you're thinking about staying here: 1. **No Hot Water in Monsoon** The hotel uses a solar water heating system, meaning that hot water is unavailable on cloudy or rainy days, which is a significant drawback during the monsoon season. This can be especially inconvenient if you're traveling with a child or need warm showers for comfort or health reasons. 2. **Ant Problem & Cleanliness** Cleanliness is an issue. I found ants roaming around the room, particularly near any food items. You’ll need to keep the room impeccably clean to prevent them – I’ve attached a photo for reference. 3. **Lacking Basic Amenities** They don’t provide toothbrushes or toothpaste, so make sure to bring your own. While they do offer shampoo and shower gel, these are not replenished during your stay. Additionally, there’s no floor towel in the bathroom, so be careful to avoid slipping. 4. **No Kettle or Weighing Scale in Room** You won’t find an electric kettle or weighing scale in your room, which is typically expected in a 4-star hotel. They did provide a communal kettle upon request, but its condition leaves much to be desired (see photo). 5. **Not Suitable for Work Trips** If you're on a business trip, take note: there’s no table or chair in the room. You’ll be stuck working from the bed, which is neither comfortable nor practical. 6. **Housekeeping Only If You Ask** Rooms are not cleaned daily unless you specifically ask for it. This policy isn’t made clear during check-in, so don’t assume regular cleaning will happen automatically. 7. **Poor Wi-Fi and Safety Concerns** Wi-Fi is very unreliable in the evenings, especially during the monsoon. Additionally, some switchboards had exposed wires, posing a safety risk – definitely not child-friendly (see photo for proof). 8. **No Elevator – Pack Light!** There’s no lift available, so if you have heavy or multiple bags, be prepared for a workout. Accessibility can be tough for elderly guests or families. In conclusion, Rockwell Colombo might be fine for extremely budget-conscious solo travelers who can forego basic comforts or services, but it certainly doesn’t live up to 4-star expectations. For families, business travelers, or anyone who needs a safe, clean, and comfortable stay, I suggest finding another option.

I really enjoyed my stay at this boutique hotel, which had wonderful staff and great service! My double room was spacious, featuring a very modern shower. The breakfast was delicious and offered a good variety. They even prepared a packed breakfast for my safari outing the next day, which was a nice touch.

I stayed at the Rockwell Hotel in August 2025, and while my experience was generally satisfactory, several issues did impact my comfort and convenience. The room was of average size, but the bed and pillows were really comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep. The air conditioning and lighting functioned well. However, I found some essential amenities were missing. They provided tea bags and sugar, but there was no kettle to prepare tea or coffee. In the 'Norwich' room, the hot water system was non-functional, and one soap dispenser was out of order. The in-room safe also didn’t work, which was disappointing from a security perspective. Another downside was the bathroom setup: the curtains didn’t work properly, and the windows couldn’t be securely locked. There was no bath mat or carpet, leading to water spreading across the bathroom and even into the room after a bath, which created quite a mess. Dining options were also limited, with no in-house dinner service or à la carte menu available, though food delivery through Uber Eats and PickMe Foods was convenient. The TV only offered local channels, lacking any international options. One of the most inconvenient features was the absence of a working table, making it tough to do any office or computer work or even enjoy meals in the room. While the hotel may provide decent value for budget travelers on short stays, it doesn’t quite meet the standards one expects from a 4-star establishment. Having stayed at several 4-star hotels before, I can confidently say this one fell short. If you're just looking for a basic place to stay and can overlook some shortcomings, it might suit you — but for those expecting a genuine 4-star experience, it’s not the best choice.

I stayed here in May 2025, and the hotel was accommodating with my late check-in. The room and bathroom were clean, and I found the bed and room to be comfortable, along with a good air conditioning unit and a nice balcony area. The staff was very helpful, courteous, and attentive throughout my stay. Breakfast was healthy and enjoyable. The host was especially kind, providing food outside of regular hours when they learned I was feeling unwell. The location is central, making it convenient to access shops, a launderette, dining options, medical facilities, and pharmacies.

I cannot recommend this place at all. It feels like a waste of money. The body towels are even smaller than the face towels, and there's a water blockage in the shower. After about 15 minutes of showering, the whole room turns into a pool. They only provide a small piece of soap instead of any shower gel. I paid for the Suite room at 10,500 LKR, but the experience was more akin to a budget hotel that should cost between 3,000-5,000 LKR. It wasn't clean either; there was dust everywhere.

I strongly recommend Hotel Rockwell. The staff is incredibly accommodating. We arrived quite late at night, but they waited for us, welcomed us warmly, and assisted with our luggage. They also went above and beyond by providing us with extra amenities. The room was very comfortable and spacious, complete with a microwave for heating food. The bathrooms were also roomy and clean, making it a perfect choice for couples. I definitely recommend this hotel.

My room was immaculate, cozy, and well-kept, equipped with all the necessary amenities. The location was ideal, making it easy to explore the surroundings, and the food was truly delicious.
