Charming hotel with great views

This colonial hotel features a modern lobby and restaurant, all while maintaining its charm. It's conveniently situated near attractions such as the Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque, St. Anthony's Shrine, Dutch Hospital, and Old Parliament. Accessing the hotel from Colombo Fort railway station and the bus station is quite easy. Check-in was quick and hassle-free. Our room was spacious, clean, and well-kept, plus it offered a peaceful atmosphere. We loved the stunning harbour view at night and enjoyed tasty food and drinks at the hotel's restaurant, "Harbour Room."

Service Shines, Food Disappoints

I dined at this restaurant yesterday with my family and a friend, and while the service was exceptional, the overall dining experience left much to be desired. **The Service** First, I have to praise the restaurant manager and bar staff. They were extremely courteous, professional, and attentive throughout our visit. Their hospitality truly reflects well on the establishment. **The Kitchen & Food Quality** Regrettably, the kitchen did not uphold the same standards. We faced several notable problems: **Inflexible Service:** When our friend asked for string hoppers, the chef initially turned down the request. Even after asking multiple times, the alternative given (three small pieces of roti) was insufficient. **Inaccurate Dishes:** The roti came with chicken curry, but when we asked for lunumiris, we received a red gravy that was obviously not the authentic condiment we wanted. **Substandard Main Courses:** We ordered three Chicken Cordon Bleu dishes, which were bland and surprisingly lacked any cheese. **Misleading Menu Descriptions:** The menu indicated a vegetable salad and chips, but we ended up with a tiny serving of French fries, a few cucumber slices, and a single carrot piece. **Professional Conclusion** As a travel agent, I focus on "value for money" and the consistency of guest experiences. While the front-of-house team excels, the kitchen is currently a drawback. Food quality is vital for a restaurant's success, and unless there’s immediate improvement in the chef’s response and culinary output, the venue risks damaging its reputation and losing repeat customers. Given this experience, I would find it hard to recommend or book this place for my future clients.

Comfortable stay despite bugs

We booked three rooms for our stay. I shared a room with my dad while my mom stayed with my grandmother. The hotel looked nice from the outside, and although one of the elevators was out of order, we didn't mind using the other one. However, once we got to our room, I didn't care much about the outdated furniture, but I was quite bothered by the bugs; they were everywhere. The room was also a bit dirty.

Pleasant dining in a serene setting

Overall, it was a nice experience with a tranquil and relaxing vibe, enriched by the ancient heritage surrounding the restaurant. The staff were warm and inviting, particularly Kasun, who managed my reservation seamlessly, although I'm not clear on his role at the restaurant.
