The room for four was excellent, and the bathroom was impressive. Dinner was tasty, and the staff were courteous and accommodating. The pool is ideal for unwinding. I would definitely like to return!

We had an incredible stay, even though it was just for one night, and we found ourselves wishing we could have stayed longer. The service was outstanding. Our room was gorgeous and equipped with everything we needed and then some. The pool was lovely as well. Plus, the hotel arranged our entire safari experience, which was a fantastic bonus.

I enjoyed a wonderfully calming experience at Ceylan Trees. If you’re in search of a tranquil, private retreat surrounded by nature, this place truly excels. The property features just two villas, giving it an exclusive feel—almost like having your own vacation home. It’s situated about 8 minutes from the Kataragama Devalaya and around 15 minutes from the main town, making it both convenient and peacefully secluded. The location is a bit off the main road, and arriving at night can feel somewhat strange since it’s quite dark and isolated. However, once you get settled, that same quietness adds to the charm. It feels secure, cozy, and incredibly homely. One of the standout features is the stunning paddy field right outside the villa—it enhances the overall experience with its natural beauty. The interiors are modern, clean, and well-kept, plus there’s a small swimming pool perfect for relaxing. Meals must be pre-ordered since there isn’t a full-time restaurant on-site, but the food was fantastic—fresh, delicious, and with a comforting homemade flavor that enhanced my stay. One thing to keep in mind is that mobile data coverage (both Dialog and Mobitel) is quite limited and almost non-functional. However, the villa offers reliable WiFi, and making voice calls isn’t a problem. In summary, it’s a serene, nature-filled escape ideal for those wanting to disconnect and unwind in a peaceful setting.

I recently visited this hotel in Kataragama, and while the property is visually stunning, there are several key areas that require substantial improvement. The design and construction of the hotel are top-notch. The rooms are modern, spotless, and quite comfortable. The swimming pool is well-kept and enjoyable. The atmosphere is serene, fitting the spiritual essence of Kataragama. Areas that need attention include: • Food & Dining Experience: The food quality was quite disappointing. Breakfast had hygiene issues, including hair found in the food, which is unacceptable. The fruit platter didn't match the advertised “seasonal fruits” and was identical across menus, which feels misleading. The “English breakfast” featured items like chickpeas, which didn't fit the description. The fruit platter tasted like temple offerings and wasn't fresh or appealing, especially in the heat. There was only one table for breakfast, leading us to wait for others to finish before we could eat, indicating poor organization. Tea was served while we were eating, already sweetened without checking our preferences, and it was overly strong as the tea bag was left in too long. This reflects a lack of basic hospitality knowledge. Plus, the breakfast area was quite warm, with just a small fan, insufficient for Kataragama's climate. • Service Issues: The welcome drinks provided upon arrival were left untouched in the room the next day. The staff rarely answer the phone, which is quite frustrating. Overall, the service reflects a lack of attention to hospitality standards. • Bathroom & Cleanliness: The shower had very low water pressure, making it hard to wash properly. Moreover, the shower cubicle was not cleaned thoroughly, with noticeable dried water spots. • Food Availability & Location Awareness: Kataragama is mainly a religious site, and many visitors attend night worship, often returning late. Since this is a rural area, options for outside food are limited. However, the hotel stops serving food early (around 10 PM), which isn't practical. The hotel should adjust to the local context and guest needs rather than adhere strictly to standard hotel hours. Given that many guests come here for prayer rather than leisure, they should adapt to this clientele to enhance guest satisfaction. We would love to return if they make these adjustments. Overall Experience: This hotel has significant potential. The rooms and design are genuinely impressive, but the service, food quality, and management need considerable improvement. It was also frustrating that breakfast was served late (almost 9:45 AM), while we were expected to vacate the room by 11 AM, which seems unfair. We would genuinely like to return, particularly when visiting Kataragama for worship, but only if these concerns are addressed. With the right improvements, this could become an outstanding lodging option in the area.
