We went to the OPD at St. Joseph Hospital and had a really positive experience. Every member of the team, from the reception to the medical staff, was professional, courteous, and helpful. The entire process was organized, and we felt well cared for during our visit. Fantastic service and a committed team. Highly recommend it.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The prices were fair. The doctor was approachable and provided detailed information about treatments and medications. Although the hospital is small, it has a clean and modern appearance. The pharmacy operates quickly and efficiently. I was very satisfied with my visit and would come back again.

I had a very disappointing experience at St. Joseph's Hospital in Negombo. I visited for an early pregnancy ultrasound at around 7 weeks. The staff specifically scheduled me for a transvaginal scan and provided strict prep instructions: no food for 5 hours and to drink plenty of water without using the bathroom. I followed their guidelines and ended up waiting over an hour in uncomfortable conditions. When a doctor finally arrived, he was male and refused to carry out the internal ultrasound, stating that male doctors don’t perform this procedure at the hospital. Consequently, they only conducted an external scan, which is virtually ineffective at this early stage. I walked away without any meaningful diagnostic information, which was the primary reason for my visit. To make matters worse, I was still charged 12,000 LKR, which included additional medication charges that were not explained. It's unacceptable for patients to be scheduled for a procedure that the hospital can't carry out after making them wait for so long.

Avoid St. Joseph Hospital at all costs! I went there with intense ear pain and specifically requested an ENT specialist when I booked my appointment. They confirmed my appointment with prepayment and made it clear I needed to arrive on time. I got there early, but was told I must pay the full fee before even seeing the doctor, Dr. Premalal De Mel. After that, I was told to wait because the doctor would arrive “soon.” I asked about the wait after 20 minutes and received the same response. Ultimately, I waited over an hour. It’s frustrating that patients are expected to be punctual while the doctor doesn’t follow the same rule. When I finally got to see him, I tried to discuss my symptoms—ear pain, pressure, possible infection, and concerns about flying soon. However, I was interrupted repeatedly and struggled to express myself. My questions were largely disregarded. The examination was very brief—just a quick flashlight check—and despite that, I was prescribed several medications right away. I ended up paying 7000 LKR for this service—without clear answers, a thorough examination, or my concerns being adequately addressed. Eventually, I sought a second opinion. I only got to do this after I expressed to a nurse that I felt dismissed and had been given medication without a proper evaluation. After mentioning that my father is a doctor and detailing what needed to be looked at, I was finally allowed to see another physician. There, my ear was examined correctly, and it turned out to be inflamed, which I had been trying to clarify from the start. This experience felt more like being overcharged than receiving the actual care I needed.
