Stunning Views in a Peaceful Setting

If you’re searching for a serene spot in Ella that’s still close to the center, with breathtaking views tucked away in the forest, Nine Arch View Ella is the place to be. Just remember to show kindness and respect to all the forest creatures around! 🙂

    Disappointing stay despite beautiful views

This place disappoints, especially considering the wonderful Sri Lankan hosts who strive to provide a great experience. Where should I start? 1. The shower's drainage system empties directly into the forest beneath the house—how outrageous! This shows a lack of care for nature. 2. The photos are outdated, and the appliances are old. 3. The cleanliness of the place was subpar, and when I reached out to the owner about the unclean room, he didn’t respond at all. 4. You can’t fully close the bathroom door, which means there's no privacy for using the toilet. 5. The bathroom door also lacks an exterior handle, so you can't secure it from either side. 6. The bathroom floor and fixtures were very dirty, clearly not cleaned in a long time. 7. After messaging the owner and requesting not to have breakfast due to our lack of trust in the cleanliness, a lady still knocked on our door at 6:30 AM asking if we wanted breakfast (this should be arranged the night before like other hosts do). On a positive note, check-in and check-out were flexible. The view is stunning, but then again, most views in Ella are beautiful. I would NEVER choose to stay here again.

    Impressive Colonial-Era Bridge

The Nine Arch Bridge, often referred to as the "Bridge in the Sky," is a stunning colonial-era viaduct located near Ella, Sri Lanka. Spanning 300 feet in length and 25 feet in width, it stands between 80 to 100 feet high. Built in 1921 using brick, cement, and stone, this impressive structure was completed without any steel. Local legends attribute its construction to a Ceylonese builder named P. K. Appuhami, who reportedly used traditional techniques after the steel was redirected for World War I, though official records indicate it was actually British engineers who oversaw the project.

Stunning Views at Nine Arches Bridge

I visited the Nine Arches Bridge and absolutely loved it! The bridge is stunning with its ancient stone arches set against the backdrop of lush green tea plantations. It's a tranquil spot for a stroll and taking photos. The hike leading to it is pleasant, and the view from the bridge is truly unforgettable. It's definitely a must-see if you're in Ella!

Avoid This Place at All Costs

Be cautious! The overall rating can be misleading; most of the five-star reviews are about the bridge and not the accommodations. This was easily the worst host we encountered during our trip in Sri Lanka. I advise against booking with them. They canceled our reservation, which we made a month in advance, right on the spot. We had to take our bags out for another group that had booked after us, just the night before. Nothing about this situation made sense. To add insult to injury, they offered us a 'free' tuk-tuk ride to a different location, only to charge us more when we arrived. It was a terrible experience. Once again, stay away from them!

    Breathtaking Landmark in Ella

The Nine Arches Bridge in Ella stands out as one of Sri Lanka’s most famous landmarks, offering a stunning view. Encircled by verdant tea plantations and misty hills, this grand stone bridge from the colonial era is truly an architectural wonder. Witnessing a train gracefully cross the bridge is a mesmerizing experience, particularly during sunrise or sunset when the fog drifts over the valley. The brief hike through the tea fields to get to the bridge is enjoyable and adds to the allure. Along the way, local villagers sell tea and snacks, creating a delightful and refreshing break. Whether you’re into photography, appreciate nature, or are simply an inquisitive traveler, this site is essential when visiting Ella. Its blend of history, nature, and picturesque scenery makes it unforgettable.

    Beautiful guest house in Ella

We had a fantastic stay and can wholeheartedly recommend this lovely guest house to anyone visiting Ella! Nestled in a serene and tranquil area, the house is surrounded by nature and boasts a breathtaking view of the valley, including the iconic Nine Arch Bridge. Waking up to such scenery was truly enchanting. You can easily walk to the Nine Arch Bridge and Little Adam’s Peak from the property, and the city center is just a pleasant 25-minute stroll away or a quick 5-minute tuk-tuk ride. The hosts are exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Since the narrow road prevents car access, the host kindly arranged a tuk-tuk to help transport our luggage from the main road to the guest house, making everything hassle-free. The rooms are very clean and well-equipped with water bottles, plenty of towels, space for hanging clothes, a comfortable mattress, and blackout curtains for a great night’s sleep. Breakfast was absolutely delightful! Everything was freshly made, including tasty pancakes and omelettes, fresh fruit, and excellent Sri Lankan coffee. We also really appreciated the warm welcome coffee we received upon arrival — such a nice touch. A special shoutout to Hansi, the owner’s daughter. She is always eager to assist, helps with translations when necessary, and is genuinely sweet. She added a special charm to our stay. We departed with wonderful memories and would love to return! 🌿
