Wonderful stay at Copacabana beach Hotel

It’s with a heavy heart that I leave the Copacabana beach Hotel today after a wonderful 14-night stay. The location is ideal, just steps from the beach and close to local bars and restaurants. The owner and his family were incredibly helpful and welcoming. We enjoyed a fantastic rooftop breakfast with excellent food. Though our room didn’t have a beach view, it was very clean and spacious. Surprisingly, we weren’t disturbed by noise from nearby bars, even on New Year’s Eve! I will definitely return soon. Thank you!

Great budget stay near the beach

This place is located on Galle Road, just a few meters from the beach. The west-facing rooms offer a decent view of the sea framed by coconut trees. I stayed in a first-floor room that was spacious enough, featuring a four-poster bed, bedside tables, a cupboard, and a mini-fridge. The balcony had two comfy cushioned chairs, a clothes rack, and a small table, all with waterproof covers for the cushions, which was a nice touch. The entire property was clean and well-kept, including my room. The bathroom was good and had hot water. The owner was welcoming and helpful, providing directions and advice when I called. Since I booked during the off-season, the owner informed me that meals and drinks wouldn’t be available on-site, but he generously offered me a pot of coffee with fresh milk and sugar in the morning. For affordable and tasty lunch and dinner options, there's a takeaway outlet at the nearby Avenra Hotel where you can find flavorful rice, noodles, and kotthu at low prices; they also have a few tables if you prefer to eat there. Additionally, there's a small grocery store run by locals across Galle Road for most necessities. The popular Vibrations Club and Bar is also within a short walking distance. I recommend this place for budget travelers seeking a seaside stay with privacy while still enjoying the lively Hikka atmosphere. Just a heads-up: experiences may differ during the high season! My only complaint is that the kitchen lacked a microwave for reheating food.

    Consistently Enjoyable Beach Experience

I love returning here year after year. This year's swell was fantastic, and we spent about 2-3 hours in the water each session. The beach break is perfect for body surfing, while the reef break is ideal for surfing. The atmosphere is calm and enjoyable. The hotel offers a nice breakfast and is conveniently located right by the beach. There are small shops, a supermarket, and wine stores a bit further down the road to the north. We also took a bus to Mirissa, which has another awesome beach. I definitely recommend it!

Charming beachfront hotel with great breakfast

This charming little hotel is perfectly situated right on the beach. The room is spacious and well-furnished, with a super comfortable bed that comes with a practical mosquito net. However, the bathroom can get a bit flooded after a shower, but thankfully there's a rubber squeegee available to help with that. The balcony offers excellent seating, making it easy to relax and enjoy the beach atmosphere. The roof terrace breakfast area has recently added a large sunshade, allowing for enjoyable meals in the shade. The breakfast itself was impressive, especially the Sinhalese version which is a must-try. The omelet paired with stringhopper dahl and coconatsambal is delicious, and the coconut pancake, fruit, and everything else were great too. Room cleaning, including changing bed linens and towels, occurs every three days, which I find sufficient. The only downside is that there can be some noise from nearby bars, but Niran, the hotel owner, usually tries to address this issue. Overall, Hikkaduwa is definitely a lively hotspot.

    Great stay with amazing service

We want to express our gratitude to the owner and his family for their warm hospitality during our visit! Coincidentally, the owner also works at the airport, and on the night we were leaving, he came to the front of the plane to bid us farewell. It was a delightful surprise that made us very happy! The hotel is situated right on the beach, offering a stunning view from the balcony. The place is tidy and well-maintained. Despite some comments about noise from the bar below, we had no issues during our four-night stay; it was peaceful and comfortable for sleeping. I believe the owner is doing all he can to ensure a good experience. Breakfast is served on the rooftop, and everything is delicious and clean. The pancakes with honey and coconut will be a cherished memory for us.

    Charming seaside hotel discovery

I visited Hikkaduwa based on a friend's suggestion, but I stumbled upon this lovely hotel myself. It's a cozy place right by the sea, with some rooms offering ocean views. The accommodations are tidy and equipped with AC. The prices for the night are quite reasonable too.

Great stay but serious harassment issue

I stayed at the Copacabana Beach Hotel earlier this year and was quite pleased with my experience — the staff was welcoming, the food was top-notch, and the atmosphere was delightful. There's a bar on the first floor called the Harbour Restaurant & Bar. However, I need to report a significant issue with one of the bar employees named Janaka. Since January, he has been repeatedly calling and messaging me from various phone numbers (I've blocked over 10 already). His messages are explicit and aggressive, and he has even threatened to share my photos on adult websites, along with sending inappropriate images and videos. The only interaction I had with him was at the beach bar, where he served me a drink, and there was no further communication. I want to stress that my stay at the Copacabana hotel was otherwise fantastic — the vibe was relaxing, and the bar was a lovely spot to sip a cocktail and enjoy the sunset. However, this ongoing harassment from a staff member has caused me considerable distress. I'm writing to alert other guests and to ask the bar or hotel owner to reach out to me directly.
