A Heartbreaking Experience with Dr. Kandauda

During my wife's first pregnancy, we sought the expertise of Dr. Chaminda Kandauda, a reputable VOG in Kandy, and continued our consultations with him until about the seventh month. One day, my wife noticed a lack of movement from the baby, prompting us to rush to the nearby government hospital in Medawala. They couldn't pinpoint the issue and recommended we go to Peradeniya Hospital within half an hour. While on our way, we reached out to Dr. Chaminda Kandauda, who instructed us to meet him at Asiri Hospital. Upon our arrival, he conducted a scan and reassured us that the baby's heartbeat was fine. However, the following day, my wife still felt no movement from the baby. We attempted to contact him several times, and he consistently reassured us that there was no cause for concern and that it was normal. Following his advice, we remained at home for about five days. After that period, we returned for another check-up, only for him to inform us that the baby's heartbeat had ceased. This was our first child, and it became one of the most excruciating experiences we could have imagined. As expectant parents, we had faith that proper monitoring and care would be provided, especially after repeatedly expressing our concerns about the lack of movement. In hindsight, I feel that he should have given the situation more attention and taken urgent action during that crucial time. Once it was confirmed that our baby had passed, he requested that we come back to Asiri Hospital for a cesarean section and made all the necessary arrangements. We declined and chose to admit my wife to Kandy General Hospital, where the staff treated her well. She remained there for about five days and ultimately delivered the baby naturally. Even after this tragic event, Dr. Chaminda called to inquire if we were proceeding with the cesarean, but I turned him down again. Subsequently, we underwent postmortem and genetic testing, which revealed that there were no genetic issues or signs of immaturity in the baby. I share this experience two years later because the memory and pain remain vivid for us. I hope that by recounting our story, others can grasp the significance of diligent monitoring and timely medical intervention during pregnancy.

    Disappointing Service Experience

We were quite let down by the service we received. Despite being charged a significant amount, we felt that we didn't receive the proper care we needed. The diagnosis card indicated ‘Gastric,’ but most of the tests performed resembled those typically conducted for heart attack patients. They also recommended a CTCA scan, which we chose not to go ahead with. Additionally, we encountered issues with incorrect information being sent to the insurance company, leading us to pay out of our own pockets. On a positive note, the doctors and nurses at Suwasewana were attentive and showed genuine care for the patient. However, the patient spent nearly two hours in the ETU, and while we were told that an ECG should be taken every two hours, only a blood test was conducted during that time. Even at discharge and payment, no follow-up ECG was carried out. This is just our personal experience and perspective. We would recommend that others think carefully before deciding, even in an emergency situation.

    Outstanding service at Vision Care

I had an excellent experience at the Vision Care branch of Asiri Hospital, thanks to Ms. Punsara! The staff was not only professional but also friendly and efficient. The eye testing was comprehensive, and they made it easy for us to find the perfect eyewear. The whole process was smooth and stress-free. I highly recommend them for top-notch optical care! I was very satisfied with the service; they are certainly ahead of other optical companies.

    Outstanding support at ASIRI Hospital

I had a really great experience at ASIRI Hospital in Kandy, largely due to the fantastic assistance from Ms. Reshani, the Patient Relations Officer/Coordinator. I had three appointments and spent several hours at the hospital. Ms. Reshani was there for me every step of the way, helping to schedule my appointments, guiding me to the right doctors' offices, retrieving my medication from the pharmacy, arranging my blood test, and providing support when I needed to have my eyes checked. She was professional, friendly, attentive, and incredibly patient. Her help made a lengthy visit to the hospital much more manageable. I am truly thankful for her kindness and outstanding service. She is definitely a valuable asset to ASIRI Hospital Kandy. Thank you, Ms. Reshani, and thanks to the entire team at ASIRI Hospital Kandy for the high standard of care. I felt supported, guided, and well cared for throughout a long and hectic day.

    Poor service at Asiri Kandy

The staff at Asiri Kandy are the worst I've encountered in hospitals. Experienced staff should either move on or train these arrogant employees. Each visit to this hospital has been painful, dealing with staff who lack empathy and are rude. I have met some good staff, but these individuals need to be addressed and possibly removed if they can't improve their soft skills, regardless of their position. In comparison, the Channelling Centre and Suwasevana have much better staff who truly understand patients and those seeking quality service. It's embarrassing to witness such poor service. This place should be known for its hospitality, but right now, it exhibits some of the worst. Immediate training for the staff is essential to help them understand patients and clients better.
