Exceptional Care for a Bad Infection

I’m thankful this hospital took me in immediately for a severe infection. The doctor was clear and professional in explaining my needs. The surgery lasted just 10 minutes, followed by aftercare and medication instructions. As a solo female traveler from the US, where we lack proper healthcare, I truly appreciate the help I received. I’m healing now and feeling very grateful!

    Helpful staff and reassuring doctor

I visited for a rabies vaccination after being bitten by a stray dog. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The doctor, who spoke English, was very comforting. Overall, it was a very positive experience!

    Unfriendly doctor experience

We visited to receive the second rabies shot after being bitten by a dog. The doctor was quite unfriendly and was unable to confirm whether the vaccinations were the same as the previous time. I wouldn't return there again. While the rest of the staff was pleasant, we didn't feel at ease or welcomed during our visit.

    Excellent Care for Rabies Protocol

I visited for rabies protocol and found the staff to be very helpful, even with some language barriers. They clearly explained the entire process for the rabies protocol. I was also provided with a form to take home to finish the procedure. Additionally, the nurse who gave me the injection was incredibly patient and kind, and I barely felt a thing—she was amazingly gentle.

    Exceptional care and support

The staff here were incredibly friendly and genuinely tried to assist us to the best of their ability under the circumstances. The doctors and nurses handled the situation remarkably well, especially considering the high volume of patients they manage daily. They treated the dog bite with utmost seriousness, ensuring everything was cleaned and providing a vaccination right away!

    Great Experience for Medical Care

The staff were incredibly friendly and many spoke English! My friend and I visited for rabies shots after getting scratched by a dog. The doctor attended to us promptly, took our concerns seriously, asked all the necessary questions, and guided us through the vaccination procedure. We were in and out within an hour, feeling well taken care of.

    Exceptional Care After an Accident

I was bitten by a monkey on my forearm at the Temple of Mandulla, which left me quite anxious. I rushed to your hospital and received outstanding care from both the medical and paramedical staff. I'm truly thankful to everyone who helped me. A heartfelt thank you to the doctor and her team who treated me on the night of the incident, January 22nd, as well as to the surgeon and his crew who stitched me up the following day, January 23rd. I sincerely appreciate all the assistance I received.

    Unprofessional and Abusive Treatment

I encountered the most toxic and unprofessional treatment at Dambulla Hospital. After experiencing a seizure, I went there seeking urgent care, but the Consultant and other doctors in Ward 02 chose to insult and humiliate me about my job as a school teacher. They also verbally abused my mother, and I noticed they treated all female patients with the same level of disrespect. When I expressed that I was suffering from severe stomach burning due to medication, the doctors made disgusting and inappropriate jokes suggesting I was pregnant. To further humiliate me for speaking out, the Consultant called me "crazy" and sent me to the psychiatric unit. Additionally, I was put in a bed next to another severe seizure patient whose face was distorted, which caused me significant psychological trauma. With no proper medical care and experiencing emotional abuse, I felt I had no option but to leave. Public hospitals are supposed to help vulnerable individuals, not bully teachers, insult families, and mentally torture patients. It's an absolute disgrace!

    Mixed experience at the hospital

My partner received his rabies vaccinations here, and the process was quick and efficient. However, I had to visit for stomach problems, likely due to a bacterial infection, and I felt quite unwell. I ended up being admitted for over 10 hours for blood tests, IV treatment, medication, and urine samples. I was informed that I needed to stay overnight, but my partner would have to leave since it was a female-only ward. Feeling anxious, we decided to wait for my results, after which I got a prescription and discharged myself. The staff in the ward were friendly and clearly busy, given the number of seriously ill patients around me, so I can't blame them for taking their time with me. The total cost was around 5000 rupees, which I consider reasonable. However, cleanliness could use some improvement, especially in the ward's restroom. I would recommend opting for a private hospital if you're okay with paying more. This hospital mainly caters to locals, who are always very friendly and eager to assist, but it's quite different from hospitals back home. Despite everything, I'm thankful for the care I received. :)

Efficient healthcare experience in crowded hospital

We had a great experience here. The hospital was extremely busy, and our tuk tuk driver, who was arranged by our homestay, helped us navigate the visit; I believe it wouldn't have gone as smoothly or been as low-stress without his assistance. My fiancé had a dog scratch, so we came to get rabies post-exposure vaccines. We were in and out in just 45 minutes, and the staff were exceptionally professional. They checked our vaccination history and also provided a tetanus booster. The cost was very reasonable at 3200 SLR. I would definitely suggest bringing someone who speaks Sinhala if you're a foreigner worried about healthcare and language issues.
