Great care, but security needs improvement

I spent the last five days at word no -16. The doctors and nurses provided excellent care, and I was very satisfied. However, I did have one concern regarding the security guards; they were not familiar with names and displayed poor behavior. I hope the hospital management can take action or provide guidance on how to better treat visitors and patients, as they come for treatment, not for leisure. Thank you.

    Effortless Vaccination Experience

I received my Rabies vaccine and immunoglobulin shots at this location. The entire process was straightforward, and the staff were incredibly helpful. If you’ve been vaccinated previously, it’s a good idea to bring your vaccination card with you. 👍🏻

    Good emergency care, quick service

The Public Hospital is open 24 hours for emergencies. They took care of my son after a cat bite. While it wasn't as clean as hospitals I'm used to, it was still acceptable. The doctors were friendly, and we were in and out much faster than I anticipated. Google Maps lists two locations, but only one is the correct entrance.

    Exceptional Care in Emergency Situation

During our visit to Trincomalee from Batapola Suba Sewa Samithiya, one of our group members fell ill unexpectedly. We called Suwaseriya, and they arrived in less than a minute, providing incredibly swift and effective service. The next day, a compassionate lady doctor went out of her way to arrange transport for us. I can’t recall her name, but her kindness and commitment truly made an impression. The level of service we received, exceeding their usual responsibilities, was remarkable. We are extremely thankful for the outstanding care and attention, and we highly recommend Trincomalee Hospital for their professionalism and sincere concern.

Excellent care at a public hospital

This is the largest public hospital in the area. I was treated for dengue here, and I found the wards to be very clean. Given that it’s a public hospital offering free services, I’m quite pleased with the facilities. The doctors, nurses, and all the staff were incredibly friendly and supportive during my treatment. I fully recovered after just a few days, and I’m very happy with the service I received.

    Terrible hospital experience

This hospital was dreadful, with awful service and poor hygiene. We witnessed them placing needles meant for injections in a metal bowl that also held items like pens and napkins. After waiting two hours, we had to pay for a vaccine that they didn't even have in stock. The staff were quite rude, telling us to wait until evening, and they were especially unapologetic towards foreigners, particularly Dutch visitors. I strongly recommend seeking care at a private hospital instead of this one.

    Efficient and caring rabies vaccination

We arrived at the government hospital and were promptly taken to the injection room since we needed a rabies shot. The staff treated us with seriousness and professionalism, and I appreciated their caring approach. The head doctor informed us that during the high season, they assist around 30 tourists annually for rabies vaccinations, which indicates they are well-prepared. We were back outside within an hour. It's worth mentioning that while the building is somewhat run-down, it appeared clean, and the doctors and nurses were diligent about disinfecting their hands, using needles from new packets.

    Disorganized and Rude Service Experience

On March 13, 2026, I visited the Trincomalee branch of the General Hospital in Trincomalee for consultations about my skin, hair, nutrition, and dental problems. First, at the skin clinic, the staff directed me to another doctor, but that doctor wasn’t available. It became clear I had been given wrong directions. I sought help from several nurses, but they also provided incorrect information, leaving me quite confused. Eventually, a friend of mine helped me find the right place so I could finish my consultation, after which I was given a future appointment date. The whole experience felt very chaotic and unprofessional. Next, I met with the nutritionist. I noticed that the nutritionist and other staff members were playing video games, eating, and laughing while patients waited outside for a long time without any acknowledgment. When I finally got inside, they immediately insisted that I buy a copy of my medical record. They didn’t even inquire about my health issues or the reason for my visit. When I questioned why I needed to purchase it without any consultation, they explained that they would just write my name on it for my next visit. I told them I wanted to assess my condition first and would consider buying it later if treatment was necessary. This seemed to anger the nutritionist, who spoke to me quite rudely. Finally, I went to the dental department. The dentist appeared disinterested and was not polite. A dental technician examined my teeth and informed me of some infections in my gums and teeth, but the dentist did not examine me directly and simply wrote a prescription. This made it hard to determine who was actually in charge of my care. After the consultation, they told me to purchase my medications privately since the hospital didn’t have them in stock. I inquired about getting a cleaning service, assuming it would be free as a government hospital, but I was instead referred to a private medical center for a whitening treatment costing around 45,000 LKR and was given a specific private doctor’s name. Overall, I found the staff's behavior to be quite rude and unprofessional. Many were gossiping and not attending to waiting patients, which left me feeling disrespected and distressed by the whole situation. I believe the authorities should look into the conditions at the Trincomalee Branch General Hospital, especially in the dental and nutrition sections. Patients deserve proper care, respect, and clear communication. I urge the hospital supervisors to evaluate staff behavior and take necessary steps to enhance patient service.

    Clean and Convenient Hospital Experience

The hospital features a high standard of cleanliness, providing a tidy atmosphere. There's plenty of parking available, and the addition of a Hela Bojun means you can choose from light snacks or more filling meals. Moreover, a handy welfare shop stocks a range of stationery items and snacks. You’ll also find two ATM machines (BOC & People's Bank) right at the hospital entrance.

    Terrible experience with wound treatment

We visited for rabies vaccination and treatment of a bite wound. The worst a doctor can do is stitch up a wound after just one day, and they did this in a shockingly unhygienic and incompetent way, leading to a severe infection. Thankfully, the doctors at the hospital in New Delhi recognized the issue immediately and began the proper treatment, which ultimately required plastic surgery. I strongly advise against this hospital!
