    Terrible experience for foreigners

This hospital feels like a nightmare for non-locals. There's no accountability among the doctors for the treatment provided. What's worse is their inability to produce a proper invoice, making it impossible to claim reimbursement from your international health insurance.

    Teaching hospital with navigation issues

This is the primary hospital in the Kurunegala district and serves as a teaching facility. However, there are areas that require enhancement to assist patients in finding their way around the expansive site and locating the right wards. I believe there are nine gates corresponding to each unit. Additionally, many of the male wards could use some cleaning.

    Grateful for Exceptional Care

I'm being discharged tomorrow and I want to extend my sincere gratitude to my doctor, nurses, and the whole team at Ward 36 (OMF). During my time there, Sri Lanka faced severe weather, and even when floodwaters made their way into the ward, the nurses managed the situation with remarkable calmness and professionalism. Their commitment and swift actions made us feel secure and well looked after. I want to especially thank my doctor for the outstanding treatment and guidance during my recovery. The nurses and support staff were compassionate, attentive, and always willing to assist. A big thank you to everyone, including the ward master, for taking such wonderful care of me during this challenging period. I truly value your service. Thank you very much. H.M.R Wijerathne

    Exceptional Care at Kurunegala Hospital

Today, my mother received a total mastectomy at Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, conducted by Dr. Niroshan Atulagama in Theatre A. I am incredibly thankful and impressed by the professionalism, skill, and genuine compassion exhibited by the entire surgical team. Dr. Atulagama is an exceptional surgeon—calm, confident, and caring. From the pre-op procedures to the post-surgery care, everything was executed with the utmost medical excellence. The nurses and staff also provided fantastic support, ensuring my mother felt comfortable and well-cared for. This was a significant surgery, and it was performed flawlessly. The successful outcome and the quality of care gave our family peace of mind during such an emotional time. I want to express my sincere gratitude to Dr. Atulagama and the entire team at Theatre A. Kurunegala Teaching Hospital is truly fortunate to have such dedicated professionals. I highly recommend this place for anyone in need of reliable, high-quality surgical and medical care.

    Quick and Efficient Service

I visited to get my newborn’s birth certificate, bringing all necessary documents with me. After submitting them to the appropriate division, I received a reference number. I managed to collect the birth certificate in under an hour. The service was prompt and quite satisfying.

    Poor experience in cardiology unit

I encountered a distressing situation in the cardiology unit. The staff appeared to harbor grudges. Nurses constantly dropped hints and acted as if they owned the place. They arbitrarily changed patients' wards and allowed those on bed rest to walk to the washroom. The staff seems stuck in their ways and resistant to change. If the consultant doesn't step in, many patients would suffer. Unfortunately, most nurses here have been in the same ward for years and treat it as if it belongs to them.

    Rude security at Hadasuwa Medura

This place is awful, thanks to the extremely rude security staff. I went to visit a patient at Hadasuwa Medura, and the three security officers on duty spoke to us in a disrespectful and unprofessional way. We never claimed to be staff or asked for any special treatment; we were just there to see a patient. Family members visiting patients are already dealing with emotional stress, and the way we were treated is completely unacceptable. They acted as if we had no right to be there. Management needs to seriously address the conduct of these security officers and ensure that visitors receive basic respect and courtesy.

    Terrible hospital experience overall

Our visit to the hospital was by far the worst we've ever had. My father was taken to Ward 34 with a severe stomach ache, and the conditions there were simply unacceptable. There was no bed or even a chair for him to sit on. To make things worse, he was given prep medication for a colonoscopy, but the layout of the ward was a disaster. With only 2 toilets for over 50 pre-surgery patients, it was completely unhygienic and incredibly stressful for those already in discomfort. The security staff posed another significant problem. They behaved as if they owned the place, and even with a valid pass, they wouldn't let me into the ward, making me wait over 45 minutes due to their own confusion and poor attitude. The only positive aspect of our experience was the medical team. The doctors and nurses in Ward 34 were exceptional in their care and support, doing their best in such a terrible environment. However, management really needs to address the lack of basic facilities and ensure the security staff understands how to treat people properly.

    Outstanding healthcare service in Kurunegala

Kurunegala Teaching Hospital delivers crucial healthcare to a significant number of patients on a daily basis. This facility is often bustling and quite crowded, catering to individuals from Kurunegala and nearby regions. Despite the high volume of patients, the medical team puts in great effort to ensure treatment and care are provided. The hospital features a broad spectrum of medical services and is integral to the healthcare framework of the area. A big thank you to the doctors, nurses, and support staff for their commitment and service.

Essential hospital with room for improvement

Kurunegala Teaching Hospital is a vital healthcare provider that offers essential services to the local community, and the commitment of many staff members is commendable. That said, there are several aspects that need attention. A number of employees could enhance their friendliness and helpfulness towards patients and visitors. Additionally, cleanliness should be upheld more consistently throughout the facility. Particularly, the wards and washrooms require upgrades and improved maintenance to create a more comfortable and hygienic setting for patients. In summary, while the hospital serves an important role in the community, enhancements in staff service, cleanliness, facilities, and infrastructure could significantly improve the experience for everyone.
