This hospital feels like a nightmare for non-locals. There's no accountability among the doctors for the treatment provided. What's worse is their inability to produce a proper invoice, making it impossible to claim reimbursement from your international health insurance.

This is the primary hospital in the Kurunegala district and serves as a teaching facility. However, there are areas that require enhancement to assist patients in finding their way around the expansive site and locating the right wards. I believe there are nine gates corresponding to each unit. Additionally, many of the male wards could use some cleaning.

I'm being discharged tomorrow and I want to extend my sincere gratitude to my doctor, nurses, and the whole team at Ward 36 (OMF). During my time there, Sri Lanka faced severe weather, and even when floodwaters made their way into the ward, the nurses managed the situation with remarkable calmness and professionalism. Their commitment and swift actions made us feel secure and well looked after. I want to especially thank my doctor for the outstanding treatment and guidance during my recovery. The nurses and support staff were compassionate, attentive, and always willing to assist. I visited to get my newborn’s birth certificate, bringing all necessary documents with me. After submitting them to the appropriate division, I received a reference number. I managed to collect the birth certificate in under an hour. The service was prompt and quite satisfying.

I encountered a distressing situation in the cardiology unit. The staff appeared to harbor grudges. Nurses constantly dropped hints and acted as if they owned the place. They arbitrarily changed patients' wards and allowed those on bed rest to walk to the washroom. The staff seems stuck in their ways and resistant to change. If the consultant doesn't step in, many patients would suffer. Unfortunately, most nurses here have been in the same ward for years and treat it as if it belongs to them.

This place is awful, thanks to the extremely rude security staff. I went to visit a patient at Hadasuwa Medura, and the three security officers on duty spoke to us in a disrespectful and unprofessional way. We never claimed to be staff or asked for any special treatment; we were just there to see a patient. Family members visiting patients are already dealing with emotional stress, and the way we were treated is completely unacceptable. They acted as if we had no right to be there. Management needs to seriously address the conduct of these security officers and ensure that visitors receive basic respect and courtesy.

Our visit to the hospital was by far the worst we've ever had. My father was taken to Ward 34 with a severe stomach ache, and the conditions there were simply unacceptable. There was no bed or even a chair for him to sit on. To make things worse, he was given prep medication for a colonoscopy, but the layout of the ward was a disaster. With only 2 toilets for over 50 pre-surgery patients, it was completely unhygienic and incredibly stressful for those already in discomfort. The security staff posed another significant problem. They behaved as if they owned the place, and even with a valid pass, they wouldn't let me into the ward, making me wait over 45 minutes due to their own confusion and poor attitude. The only positive aspect of our experience was the medical team. The doctors and nurses in Ward 34 were exceptional in their care and support, doing their best in such a terrible environment. However, management really needs to address the lack of basic facilities and ensure the security staff understands how to treat people properly.
