    Terrible experience with rude staff

I was referred to this hospital by SOS International due to a burn injury and was instructed to reach out to Mr. Nilaufer upon my arrival. After calling him when I got there, he informed me he was on his way. I ended up waiting 40 minutes in the reception area with a painful, leaking wound. When he finally arrived, he was quite rude. He asked for my passport and inquired about my injury. When I questioned why he took so long, he simply stated he wasn’t available, ignoring my follow-up question about communication. They decided a surgeon needed to examine my wound, which seemed unnecessary to me since I was primarily concerned about the risk of sepsis and infection, but they didn’t listen. It felt like they were more interested in maximizing their profits from my insurance. During my time there, I experienced a panic attack, which the staff completely disregarded. I managed to calm myself down eventually, but I felt mistreated and frightened, leading to a sense of unsafety. Next, I was assigned a coordinator who didn’t speak English, and I had to wait a long time for the surgeon. I believe I could have seen a general medicine doctor instead to avoid the long wait. When I finally met with the surgeon, Dr. Prabhath Weerasiri, he said everything appeared fine but didn’t even check my temperature or suggest a blood test for sepsis—something I had to request myself. I also had to ask for my wound to be cleaned and redressed. When I requested a written summary of his medical assessment for my insurance, he yelled at me, claiming he had already provided it. His notes were barely legible and insufficient. Subsequently, a nurse hurriedly called me, and I had to walk through the hospital with my open wound, which felt very rushed. After the redressing was finally completed by several nurses and Dr. Weerasiri, I broke down in tears from fear and feeling neglected. Dr. Weerasiri then shouted, "WHY ARE YOU CRYING?!?" displaying insensitivity and rudeness. I didn’t respond, as I felt another panic attack approaching, which indeed happened. Despite the presence of multiple nurses and a doctor, no one offered assistance to help me calm down. I had to shout for a paper bag to breathe into. When I requested the doctor to provide clear instructions on how to redress my wound, since they told me I would be doing it myself, he yelled again, insisting he had already explained it. Only after I expressed my distress did he finally take the time to write clear instructions in readable handwriting. The results of my blood test were sent to me via WhatsApp, but the lab staff refused to send them to the doctor, asking me to deliver them myself. Lacking contact information for the doctor, I tried reaching out to Mr. Nilaufer for help but received no response. I was left with a test result I didn’t understand and no doctor available to interpret it. This hospital seems primarily focused on the money from insurance, providing minimal care and treating patients poorly. The instructions for self-redressing were only feasible for one day, as they only provided me with one compress. Living in a remote area made it impossible to find the right supplies at a pharmacy. It feels like they don’t care about people or perhaps have a disdain for tourists, only interested in their money. Consequently, I will seek care at another hospital and hope for a more compassionate approach. This hospital is losing a patient and future payments, and I hope they are satisfied with that.

    Disappointing Facilities for High Price

I opted for a room priced at 88,000 because the 65,000 room is shared and only offers chairs for caretakers. There’s no blanket for the caretaker, no newspapers, and the only toiletries provided are handwash and a tiny soap. While there’s a teapot, there are no tea bags or coffee pods. This is 88,000, not 8,000; it’s hard-earned money. Ruhunu Hospitals should aim to improve. At the very least, they should meet the basic standards. Asiri Hospital offers better charges and facilities. Admin team, please take note.

    Cold Service at the Pharmacy

Our experience at the pharmacy was quite disappointing. While most of the staff, including nurses, attendants, and front desk personnel, were exceptionally kind and friendly, making our three-day stay enjoyable, the pharmacy interaction was a stark contrast. The pharmacists on duty were not welcoming at all. There were no smiles or any sense of approachability, and their overall demeanor felt cold and dismissive. I couldn't help but notice the lady with curly hair at the middle counter and the man with a dark complexion at the issuing counter; their attitudes were hard to tolerate. This was particularly disappointing since the rest of the facility had equally qualified professionals who were knowledgeable and genuinely kind. As patients, we can sometimes be more informed than you may expect from different fields of study. A bit of humility would go a long way! I tried to catch the names of the pharmacists involved, but their name badges were too small to read. This feedback is meant for management: your pharmacy staff definitely require enhanced customer service training. The contrast between departments is quite noticeable and impacts the overall patient experience. Please share this review, as I’m sure they will recognize who I am. I would be glad if those two knew I voiced my concerns.

    Exceptional Care at Ruhunu Hospital

I’m currently having an angiogram at Ruhunu Hospital, and I’m genuinely impressed by the care and professionalism of the whole team. From the moment I was admitted to the procedure itself, the doctors, nurses, and support staff have been incredibly supportive, kind, and attentive. What really stood out was the calm and reassuring atmosphere they maintained during a stressful time. The staff took the time to explain everything in detail, answered my questions patiently, and made me feel comfortable and confident throughout the entire process. The hospital boasts modern facilities, high standards of care, and a patient-centered approach that demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence.
