Charming historical spot with great food

The expansive grounds feature a lovely garden with peacocks wandering about, enhancing the tranquil and beautiful setting. Lovely break in a garden setting

During our bike tour of the temples, we enjoyed a wonderful break in this colonial-style hotel nestled in a garden. The club sandwich was tasty, and it was a relief to be in the shade. The staff was excellent as well.

Lovely Lunch with Attentive Service

We visited for lunch and started off on the balcony with drinks. The dining room was beautiful, and the meals were outstanding without the high European prices often found in other hotels in Sri Lanka. The service was incredibly attentive, and the staff showed genuine interest in our family. Overall, it was a beautiful place for lunch.

Delicious Sri Lankan Chicken Dish

The chicken dish, ‘spice of Sri Lanka’, was outstanding. For 1700 rupees, we enjoyed rice along with ten other dishes. Everything was well-prepared and flavorful, all in a wonderful setting. It wasn't crowded during our visit.

Beautiful grounds but disappointing stay

We had high hopes for our stay here, but we ended up feeling quite disappointed. The property, an old colonial building, is nestled in lovely grounds that are well-maintained, likely due to their use for wedding photography. However, we encountered several issues. The interior of the building has fallen into disrepair, and the rooms felt worn out. This lack of upkeep was evident everywhere, even down to the front desk still using a dot matrix printer! As for the staff, while some were friendly and accommodating, others were not as attentive, possibly due to being trainees or simply indifferent to guest comfort. For instance, we were initially given a terrible room next to the dining area, but thankfully it was switched after we raised our concerns. We were puzzled as to why the hotel would use that room since it was empty. Additionally, we were not informed about an early morning wedding shoot that would disturb us, nor did we realize we needed to request room cleaning. On our first night, a helpful staff member lit some oil bowls to keep mosquitoes away while we enjoyed an evening drink outside, but the next night, a different staff member was quite unfriendly when we asked for the same service. While any single one of these issues might have been manageable, the combination of discomfort and minor grievances left us feeling let down, especially when we had anticipated a fantastic experience.
