Disappointing Experience at Cargills Food City

I recently had a very disappointing visit to Cargills Food City in Negombo, which turned out to be one of my worst shopping experiences. The main issue was the terrible state of the fruit section, especially the grapes on display. To my shock, I found that the grapes on the shelves were rotten and covered in a disgusting layer of fungus. It was clear they had been neglected for a long time, yet they were still displayed for unsuspecting customers like myself. Just looking at them made me unwilling to buy anything from that section. In addition to the awful condition of the grapes, the overall cleanliness and hygiene of the store were also very poor. An unpleasant odor lingered in the air, and the disorganization in the fruit area highlighted the store's neglect of proper standards. Moreover, the staff appeared indifferent and unresponsive when I attempted to voice my concerns. Their careless attitude and dismissive replies only added to my disappointment with their customer service. As a customer, I expect a certain level of quality and freshness in groceries, especially for perishable items like fruit. Cargills Food City in Negombo fell short of even the most basic expectations in this regard. It's disheartening to see a well-known supermarket chain like Cargills overlook such important aspects of their business. I strongly recommend that anyone thinking of shopping at Cargills Food City in Negombo be cautious and thoroughly check the quality of their products before buying. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this store to anyone who cares about the freshness and hygiene of their food. In summary, my visit to Cargills Food City in Negombo was a total letdown. The rotten grapes showcased were a clear indication of the store's negligence, and the staff's lack of response only added to my frustration. I will definitely take my business elsewhere in the future.

    Uncomfortable Shopping Experience

I want to highlight a very uncomfortable experience I had at the Cargills Food City in Negombo, right across from Nolimit. My visit was during a quieter time, so I expected a peaceful shopping trip. Instead, it turned into an awkward situation because of the conduct of the female security staff on duty. Rather than doing her job professionally, the security personnel trailed us from aisle to aisle throughout our time there, clearly suspecting us of attempting to shoplift. This wasn’t just a quick glance; her scrutiny was ongoing and obvious enough to make us feel extremely uneasy and embarrassed. After a while, I approached the security lady to ask why she was following us so closely. To our surprise, she admitted it was a directive from her manager. She offered some unacceptable justifications, but by then, the damage was already done. Such behavior is highly unethical and unprofessional. The store has CCTV cameras for monitoring, and targeting or profiling customers is not just poor practice but also harmful to the establishment's reputation. We felt neither safe nor respected, which prevented us from finishing our shopping in peace. I really hope Cargills takes this matter seriously and improves their staff training on how to treat customers with respect and fairness. No one should feel scrutinized or judged just for entering a store. If anyone else has experienced something similar, I urge you to speak up. These problems need to be dealt with. If I don’t receive a clear explanation or see some action taken soon, I’ll have to share my experience on social media and in public forums, as this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. I hope for a proper resolution. Thank you. Date: 2025/04/17 Time: Between 2:10 PM and 2:30 PM

    Great service and variety

The staff provided excellent service and were very friendly. The area is well-maintained, and the parking lot is quite spacious. They offer a wide range of household items, including fresh vegetables, fruits, fish, and meats.

    Consistent Staffing Issues

This place seems to have plenty of employees, yet it often feels understaffed! The main idea of a supermarket is to provide convenience and quick service, but I frequently encounter long lines at the registers, and there's often no one in the fish section. I find myself wandering around the store in search of assistance, only to see staff members darting off to help someone else. They have five counters, but usually only one is open, maybe two at most. Please work on improving the service. Also, there are times when it has an unpleasant odor—what's going on with that?

    Quiet and Forgotten Atmosphere

I visited Cargills Food City – Negombo 1 yesterday, one of the oldest supermarkets in the area that used to be bustling with shoppers and filled shelves. However, what I found was a rather quiet and almost neglected setting—shelves were only half-full, there was minimal staff, and the foot traffic seemed noticeably low. Although there were a few promotions available, the overall vibe of the store felt dull, lacking in both appearance and customer interaction. As someone who closely observes retail trends, I’d suggest to supermarket chains: Rather than opening numerous small outlets everywhere, why not enhance and revitalize the established stores that built your reputation? Places like Negombo deserve modern, efficient, and well-stocked supermarkets, rather than ones that feel abandoned. Expanding too broadly can sometimes weaken a brand’s identity. Let's focus on the spaces where people already have trust—give them reasons to return. ✅ Room for improvement ✅ Strategic focus needed ✅ Root before spreading #CargillsNegombo #GenieReview #RetailWisdom #QualityOverQuantity 🧞‍♂️🛒✨😇❤️🧬
