    Exceptional Dining Experience at Ulpatha

    I had a fantastic time at Ulpatha Restaurant, located in Club House – Shangri-La Hambantota. The ambiance was tranquil and sophisticated, and the food was incredibly tasty, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. The service was exceptional, thanks to the wonderful team. I want to give special recognition to: Gayan Perra – the best manager at Shangri-La Lakshitha – bartender Lakshan – bartender Milan – the top supervisor Dilrukshi – the outstanding chef Yohan – another excellent chef Radeesha – just wonderful and great with the kids Vihanga – also fantastic Shashini – the final standout Everyone was welcoming, professional, and attentive. I highly recommend Ulpatha to anyone visiting Shangri-La Hambantota.

    Perfect Family Getaway at Shangri-La

    During our busy schedules, we decided to escape with a family getaway at the Shangri-La Golf Resort and Spa in Hambanthota. The property is impressively well-kept, featuring a lush garden and a calming atmosphere. There are plenty of family-friendly activities available for all ages, from recreational fun to relaxing on hanging furniture while enjoying breathtaking sunset views over the Indian Ocean. Everyone found meals they loved, ensuring both kids and parents were happy, thanks to several dining options that catered to various tastes. In the late afternoon, we enjoyed drinks on the Ulpatha terrace, which offered a fantastic view of the golf course and lake, creating a sporty vibe combined with a garden ambiance. Manager Gayan, along with his team members Vihanga and Sashini, provided excellent customer service, greatly enhancing our experience. I must also commend the entire restaurant staff, kids club, lifeguards, and lobby for their courtesy. Additionally, the engineering team deserves recognition for going above and beyond to help us with a technical issue with our transportation, ensuring we could travel home safely. It was a worthwhile stay, and we look forward to returning for another relaxing staycation soon.

    Our dining experience at Ulpatha Restaurant, located in Club House – Shangri-La Hambantota, was truly delightful. The atmosphere was serene, elegant, and ideal for unwinding. What stood out most was the exceptional service from the staff. Everyone was attentive, professional, and sincerely welcoming. A special shout-out to Gayan Perrra, an outstanding manager whose leadership and hospitality really enhance the Shangri-La experience. Highly recommended!

    Wonderful Anniversary Celebration at Ulpatha

    We celebrated our anniversary on September 15, 2024, at Ulpatha restaurant. I want to give a special shoutout to Rishmi, who served us, and the entire Ulpatha team for their dedication to ensuring we had a fantastic time. Thank you for all your hard work. We arranged for the venue decoration at a cost of $125. The food was ordered separately from the Ulpatha menu. We enjoyed a glass of Rose wine for 2900/=, a chopped mixed salad for 2800/=, Buffalo chicken wings for 2600/=, and Baja style fish tacos for 3800/=. Everything was delicious and perfectly prepared. With the celebration package, our total came to about 47,000/=, which felt like a great value for what we received.

    Over my 40 years of extensive travel, I've dined at a wide range of places, from small family-run spots to Michelin three-star restaurants. Here’s my honest take on the Ulpatha Club House located in the Shangri-La hotel in Hambantota, Sri Lanka, which is situated one floor below the lobby next to the golf club house. I had the joy of visiting this restaurant several times during my hotel vacation, enjoying both lunch and dinner, and each experience surpassed my expectations. I sampled various dishes, and everything I tried was excellent. For my main courses, I savored grilled fish and seafood, including lagoon prawns, barramundi, tuna steak, and lobster. Every dish was well-seasoned, grilled to perfection, and served alongside lemon butter and a refreshing green salad. The sides I experienced—truffle mashed potatoes, buttered vegetables, and roasted baby potatoes—were all tasty and expertly prepared. As for appetizers, the yellowfin tuna, charred moda, and crustacean bisque (with prawns in the bisque) were particularly memorable for their flavor and presentation. The passion fruit crème brûlée was a delightful surprise with its varied textures, and the seasonal fresh fruits, especially the papaya and mango, were a consistent highlight. The service was consistently warm, friendly, and attentive. The staff remembered my preferences after several visits, which added a personal touch and made me feel right at home. The ambiance was another standout feature, offering views of the golf course and a cozy setting enhanced by live music in the evenings, often with a pianist taking song requests. Additional touches like a billiards table and a TV showing sports (with cricket being a favorite) contributed to the overall charm. Whether you're a hotel guest or just passing through, this restaurant delivers a fantastic dining experience with superb food, a welcoming atmosphere, and thoughtful service. I highly recommend it!

    Delicious food with a great view

    This charming restaurant located in the Shangri La Hotel is definitely on the pricier side. The food was tasty, though I deducted a star since the drinks took a bit longer than expected. If you sit outside, you can enjoy a lovely view of the golf course and might even catch sight of a local peacock nearby!

    Charming atmosphere and delicious food

    This place has a wonderful vibe, with a soothing and relaxing atmosphere that lets you enjoy your tasty meals while taking in the beautiful pond and golf view. The servers are friendly, speak excellent English, and are incredibly helpful. The food leans towards a European style. Among all the restaurants in the resort, we found ourselves returning to this one repeatedly because of the wide variety of delicious options, all served in generous portions. Overall, it’s a 10/10 for me—loving the food, the staff, and the aesthetic!

    Fantastic service and delicious food

    The staff here is incredibly friendly and attentive, boasting excellent knowledge of both food and drinks. The cocktails are absolutely amazing, and the food is just fabulous. A special shout out to Indika, Milan, Sashini, Vihaga, Lakshitha, and Chef Devindi for making my day so special. I highly recommend this place for both the staff and the service.     Exceptional Experience at Ulpatha

    Our time at Ulpatha in Shangri-La Hambantota was absolutely fantastic. We enjoyed several evenings there, and it quickly became our favorite spot in the resort. The ambiance strikes a balance between relaxed and elegant, boasting a gorgeous view and a welcoming atmosphere—ideal for an aperitif before dinner or a nightcap to wrap up the day. What truly sets Ulpatha apart is the staff. A heartfelt thank you to Milan, Lanshan, Vihanga, and Radeesha for their warm hospitality every single time we visited. They were attentive without being overbearing, remembered our preferences after just one visit, and were always eager to recommend new drinks for us to sample. Their genuine friendliness and interest in us made us feel more like friends than typical hotel guests. Kudos also go to Chef Yahan. His snacks and dishes were amazing—beautifully presented, packed with flavor, and always freshly made. You can truly sense his passion for culinary arts. To sum it up: Ulpatha is where excellent drinks, scrumptious food, and exceptional service converge. Thanks once more to Milan, Lanshan, Vihanga, Radeesha, and Chef Yahan for making our stay at Shangri-La Hambantota an even more memorable experience. We will certainly return!
