    Overpriced and Disrespectful Experience

This place feels like a complete scam, and the staff seems aware of it. You pay upfront for a doctor's appointment, only to be met by a doctor who chuckles about the high costs of blood tests and talks about you in Sinhala, which I understand. The price for blood tests is more than a flight back home. I would advise foreigners to avoid this place and go to Asiri in Galle instead. *Update - response* Why would you assume I’m speaking for someone else? Is it because you don't think a foreigner can understand Sinhala after living here for ten years and being married? I’m not talking about the 2000 rupee consultation fee; I’m referring to the blood tests they almost ordered, which were nearly $500. That’s what they found so amusing. If this isn’t a joke or a scam, then why are your staff laughing and making light of it? If you don’t show respect to your patients, especially the foreign ones, it’s no wonder your staff don’t either.

    Unprofessional Experience for Queer Patients

My partner visited this place for an STI test. He specifically requested a rectal test for gonorrhea, but they only performed a blood test, which is not the correct method for testing anal gonorrhea. After the blood results came back negative, he returned and asked for an anal swab. The staff seemed confused by his request and even inquired if a penis swab would suffice, as if they couldn't grasp why a man would want an anal swab. When he left, he thought he heard staff members laughing at him, which added to the ridiculousness and unprofessional nature of the experience. I wouldn’t recommend this place for queer travelers. EDIT: In response to Asia Medihealth Hospital’s reply: 1) My partner clearly mentioned rectal issues from the start. It was only after all the bloodwork was completed, and after receiving written confirmation that a rectal swab was available (see screenshot), that we were told it wasn’t available. This shows a lack of communication, not a misunderstanding on our end. 2) My comments about unprofessional behavior refer to how my partner was treated, as staff appeared not to understand why he would have rectal issues. He felt mocked when leaving, which is unacceptable in any healthcare setting. 3) We were charged a total of 4,000 LKR for the consultation and bloodwork, but that’s not the main issue! We don’t mind paying; the real problem was the poor communication and the irrelevant treatment given to the actual concern (potential rectal gonorrhea). Hope this clarifies things for everyone!

    Quick and Helpful Ear Care

After surfing, I had an issue with my ear. The doctor promptly cleaned my ears and offered advice on how to protect them. The entire process was swift and straightforward, with clear instructions. Overall, it was a fantastic experience!

    More Casino Than Hospital

After multiple visits, I've realized that this place feels more like a casino than a hospital. According to a comment from the management, Chanathke mentioned, "this is a business." When it comes to your treatment, it seems you need a lot of luck and a solid plan, as nearly everyone here appears to be incompetent and indifferent. One thing is certain: you'll end up spending a lot of money, especially as a foreigner! The same treatments come with completely different prices each time, and there's no clear pricing system. You’re treated more like a customer than a patient, and the quality of the treatments is highly questionable.

    Excellent care during a crisis

My partner and I visited this clinic after experiencing severe food poisoning. The medical staff, including doctors and nurses, provided exceptional care and undoubtedly saved our lives. I am truly thankful for their help and would highly recommend this clinic to anyone in need.

    Terrible Experience and Service

I visited after stepping on a sea urchin, and they failed to remove half of them. They also mistakenly stitched my wrong foot, leaving me with two unnecessary stitches. To top it off, they charged me 130 euros for what I consider the worst job. I had to seek proper treatment at a medical center afterward. Please take care of yourselves.

    Disappointing hospital experience

I visited the hospital out of concern for dengue fever due to having countless mosquito bites from Negombo, a high-risk area, along with swelling in my hand and joint pain. Initially, I appreciated the quick attention and being seen by a doctor right away. However, I was charged for the consultation, then again for a cannula and blood test. As someone who's quite anxious about medical situations—mostly due to my phobias—I found it frustrating that they couldn't successfully place the cannula in my left hand. They also missed the vein in my right hand while misleading me into looking away for the blood test. This led to swelling in my wrist from the misplaced cannula, which upset me further given my past traumatic hospital experiences. At that point, the doctor suggested not proceeding with the cannula. Another nurse attempted to try again on my arm, but I declined. They then patched up the failed attempts and sent me off to wait for the test results. Thankfully, the dengue test was negative, but I still had a strong histamine reaction, so they prescribed oral antihistamines despite earlier saying they wouldn't be effective. It felt like they were more interested in charging me for the cannula. The doctor mentioned I wouldn't have to pay for the medication, but I was charged again at the counter when I picked up the prescription. I wouldn’t recommend this hospital to tourists. Additionally, the facility itself is in poor condition, with dirty walls and peeling paint, which didn't give off a sanitary or clinical vibe. The nurses were pleasant and tried to help, but their limited English and comments about me being a 'baby' for being scared of the cannula were not comforting. It felt like they found my fear amusing, despite their failed attempts that caused significant bleeding.

    Terrible experience with medical care

CAUTION TO TOURISTS. The recommendations given seem more focused on maximizing profits than on providing the best treatment. I visited after a surfing accident left me with cuts on my foot, which had clearly become infected (pus and red streaks moving up my foot), along with a possible broken toe. My primary concern was the infection, with the toe being a secondary worry. During the initial assessment, they barely examined the infected area or showed any concern for it. Instead, they pushed for x-rays, likely because that’s where they earn more money. I needed antibiotics for the infection and mentioned this, but they brushed it off, continuing to insist on x-rays and telling me I needed physiotherapy before the x-ray even took place. I agreed to the x-rays, and afterward, I had to firmly insist on my concern regarding the infection and my need for antibiotics, which they reluctantly acknowledged only after I pointed out the obvious. As for the x-ray process, the machine and room looked like they hadn't been updated since the 1980s; the x-ray machine was old and the room was in disrepair. When I reviewed the x-ray images of my toe with the "Doctor," he made vague sounds of concern but didn't answer my questions (for context, I have broken many bones in the past from skating and know what a fracture looks like). There was clearly no fracture, which I pointed out to him. He finally admitted there was no break but then pointed to a bump on one of my toe bones, claiming that was the issue and that I would need physiotherapy. This bump is just a normal bone contour, which can be seen on any bone in my foot; he essentially pointed to one of these and tried to scare me into thinking that this was the problem. Moving on to physiotherapy, it’s common knowledge that after an injury, you first rest and immobilize before starting any physiotherapy (which usually begins weeks later). Instead, I was rushed into the physio room by a very pushy "doctor" who made alarming claims about how not having this physiotherapy would lead to significantly more pain and worsen the injury. I questioned the need for physiotherapy multiple times and what it would entail, but he avoided my inquiries and kept trying to instill more fear. I asked about the cost, and he continued with the fear tactics, stressing how desperately I needed this treatment. I clearly told him several times that I didn’t want or need this, explaining that physiotherapy wouldn’t help and would actually worsen the situation. This seemed to change his approach, and he began pushing for topical painkillers, heat therapy, and numbing creams. I declined. Given his persistent pressure, I firmly repeated my refusal more than five times, which he ignored. My response became quite assertive. He then insisted I was in a lot of pain and needed treatment immediately (I was in some pain, but not excessively, and I dislike taking painkillers unless absolutely necessary). I reiterated my firm refusal, which prompted him to aggressively grab and wiggle my injured toe and poke at my wounds, seemingly trying to inflict pain to justify the treatment. Luckily, my partner was just outside the door and overheard the conversation; she came in and said no. I stood up and reiterated that I had already said no multiple times. We tried to leave the building while he continued to try to persuade us. To top it off, I came in for antibiotics, which I never received—just an unclear prescription. When I asked for them, they told me I needed to go to a pharmacy, clearly indicating they didn’t care about this since they wouldn’t profit from the antibiotics!

    Exceptional Care and Fair Pricing

I visited this hospital nearly every other day for about a month after my surgery in India, where I received my stitches and dressing. My experience here has truly been wonderful. I was quite anxious, but the nurses, especially Nurse Chathumini, made me feel safe and at ease. They were incredibly reassuring and communicated with utmost professionalism, alleviating my fears, for which I am very thankful! Chathumini, along with all the nurses and receptionists, greeted me with the warmest smiles. I highly recommend this hospital. Additionally, their prices are very reasonable compared to other hospitals in the area. I never felt like I was being taken advantage of. A big thank you to everyone who assisted with my recovery, especially Nurse Chathumini.

    Overpriced for Medical Care

I can't criticize the doctors here; they seemed to do a good job in my case. They were quick to help me since there were hardly any patients early in the morning. The doctor also explained everything clearly, so I have no complaints on that front. However, compared to a nearby clinic, which is quite good, this place is too expensive. I came in with a fresh wound on the back of my head, and they stitched it up, did an X-ray, and charged me 38,000 LKR, which felt excessive (I checked with the nearby clinic). The doctor assured me that this covered everything, with no additional costs. But when I returned for bandage renewals, I found out I'd have to pay an extra 3,800 LKR each time. This fee includes 900 LKR for 'medicine' and 900 LKR for 'cotton.' It feels like they're taking advantage of tourists here. I get that it's a seasonal business and they want to maximize profits, but I'm not satisfied with this pricing. For reference, the other clinic charges about 20% less for the same procedure, and they offer two free bandage renewals. Just something to keep in mind for those interested.
