Appalling, Unprofessional, and Unsanitary!
I want to shine a light on the severe professional misconduct, unsanitary practices, and deeply inappropriate behavior I experienced during a consultation with Dr. Chathurangi Niroshana Gunatissa. I wanted to arrange the continuation of my ongoing orthodontic treatment, which originally commenced when I was abroad. Despite providing my complete medical history, including all relevant X-rays and photographs, the treatment I received from Dr. Gunatissa was entirely unacceptable for a licensed medical professional. 1. Severe Hygiene and Sanitary Violations: Upon entering the surgery room, I observed Dr. Gunatissa sitting with her bare foot pressed directly onto the patient chair, specifically in the space between the headrest and the shoulder support. She only removed her foot after noticing my visible hesitation and discomfort about sitting down. This is a gross violation of basic medical sanitation and patient safety protocols. 2. Unprofessional Interpersonal Conduct: Throughout the consultation, Dr. Gunatissa spoke in an aggressively loud, high-pitched, and screaming tone of voice, which made the environment incredibly hostile and stressful. 3. Inappropriate and Insulting Language: While examining my dental structure, Dr. Gunatissa stated, "Your nose is big, so if I take 4 teeth out, your mouth will move back and make your nose look even bigger." The wording used was highly derogatory, offensive, and completely devoid of the clinical, objective language expected of an orthodontist discussing a patient's facial profile. 4. Negligence of Care and Defensiveness: Dr. Gunatissa abruptly refused to take over my case, stating she did not want the responsibility of a treatment started elsewhere, ignoring my complete transfer documentation. Furthermore, when I mentioned that I would instead continue my treatment upon returning to the United States, she began downplaying modern, high-end orthodontic software (specifically referencing ClinCheck Pro) and dismissing US medical technology in a defensive and unprofessional manner. 5. Gross Distraction and Lack of Patient Focus: During my consultation, Dr. Gunatissa stopped operating/consulting 3 separate times to answer personal phone calls from an individual she referred to as "chooty." Taking multiple personal calls while managing a patient is highly disrespectful and a breach of professional focus. Calling Dr. Gunatissa’s behavior "unprofessional" is a severe understatement; her actions were unsanitary, abusive, and entirely unbecoming of a doctor. Please avoid this orthodontist.
