Delicious food with a minor concern

I decided to visit the restaurant after seeing the positive reviews, but I was a bit nervous at first, concerned about the cleanliness of the food. Once my order arrived, though, I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty it was. The owner is a very friendly and respectful Muslim, and I found the prices to be quite fair. The only drawback was the stairs; they were quite exhausting, especially for the kids. I was a bit anxious about heading down from the roof! 😅

    Must-visit Italian spot in Kandy

A Spanish couple traveling through Sri Lanka found some authentic culinary gems. If you're in Kandy, Terrazza is a must-visit. The chef here creates truly exceptional dishes that elevate the dining experience. It had been a long time since we'd had Italian food this good. We sampled the spaghetti with prawns, beef, and clams, and honestly, the clams were just phenomenal. They had an intense, fresh flavor that was perfectly balanced. Each dish was prepared with such care, and you could taste it in every bite. This restaurant surpassed all our expectations. We wholeheartedly recommend it. If we had more time in Kandy, we would have returned every day. Absolutely incredible.

    Poor experience for gluten-free diners

We visited hoping for gluten-free pasta, but they served me regular pasta instead. They seemed unaware of how serious this issue is. I cannot recommend this place for anyone needing gluten-free options or those with celiac disease!

Terrible experience with food safety issues

We visited Terrazza and it was undoubtedly one of the worst dining experiences we've ever encountered. We ordered four servings of pasta al ragù and clearly mentioned that one person needed gluten-free pasta. The waiter noted this down. The other three of us asked for regular pasta. When our food arrived, three plates had one type of pasta, while one plate had a different kind. The waiter placed the different pasta in front of the guest who required the gluten-free option. Unsure about this, we specifically inquired if the dishes were correct. The waiter took the plate back to the kitchen, checked with the chef, and returned to assure us it was indeed gluten-free pasta. After we finished and requested the bill, we noticed the receipt listed three gluten-free pastas and only one regular. At that moment, it became evident that our meals had been completely mixed up. How can a restaurant make such errors? Offering gluten-free options means handling allergies and medical dietary needs that can lead to serious consequences for diners. This isn’t a trivial mistake; it poses a significant food safety concern. As if that wasn’t enough, the food was extremely disappointing. The meat in the ragù was so tough and overcooked that I nearly lost a tooth trying to chew it. All we received was a brief apology. There was no compensation or genuine effort to rectify the situation, just nothing at all. We ended up paying the full price for a meal that was unacceptable on several fronts. If a restaurant cannot properly manage dietary needs and allergens, they should not offer gluten-free options in the first place. For us, this was definitely our first and last visit to this establishment. A shocking experience and certainly not one we can recommend, especially to anyone with coeliac disease, gluten intolerance, or other food allergies.

    Great food despite disruptive family

I visited this restaurant for the first time after traveling from Colombo to Sigiriya. Since it’s an Italian place, I was hoping to have some alcohol, but I was informed they didn’t serve any. Just as I was about to leave, another staff member suggested I could buy some from a nearby liquor store and bring it in. I ordered food, which I was enjoying, when a family of five, including Bram van de Water and Anouk Vermeulen, walked in. They seemed to be Dutch, as they were ordering in English but not speaking it. They ordered drinks and, after receiving them, began playing cards at the table—something I found inappropriate for a restaurant setting. The entire family finished two types of pasta that were served to them. Then, despite the lack of an ashtray, the second son lit up a cigarette. As mentioned in their review, the family started insulting the staff, with the father even resorting to profanity. The whole situation felt quite out of place. I had the impression they might not have paid their bill either, as the waiter kept coming to check on me, asking, "How's the food?" and "Are you enjoying it?" My initial discomfort began to fade. When it was time to settle up, I noticed the waiter seemed to be praying to God, almost as if he were apologizing for the earlier disturbance. Despite the chaos caused by that family, I genuinely believe this is a good restaurant with delicious food. Don’t take the reviews from Bram van de Water and Anouk Vermeulen too seriously. *I felt the need to write this because I was sure that this unusual family would leave their own review. Hopefully, this helps someone out there.

    Authentic Italian Pasta Experience

The Italian pasta here is truly tasty. The staff is very friendly, providing good service. I can recommend this place, just don’t expect a wide variety of dishes. It’s simple, authentic, and has a cozy atmosphere.
