Intrusive management, stunning views

I stayed at Mountain View Cottage on April 17th, 2026. While the rooms are nice and provide a stunning view, my overall experience was quite unsatisfactory due to the management. The owner's behavior felt very intrusive. From the moment we arrived, she kept visiting our rooms and talking excessively, which became quite annoying and invaded our privacy. Her demeanor completely shifts once she gets the advance payment. Even after we had told her how many adults were in our group, she seemed to forget it upon our arrival. It was hard to have a meaningful conversation since she kept going on without actually listening to us. Additionally, the access road to Mountain View Cottage is in bad shape and very challenging for a van to navigate. There are plenty of other places in Nuwara Eliya that offer professional hospitality. I wouldn't suggest this place for anyone looking for a tranquil stay unless they have no other options. Only the rooms and views were up to par.

Disappointing service and access issues

I cannot recommend this place at all. Our experience was quite disappointing. The hotel is situated about 5–10 km away in a narrow mountain area, which made getting there quite inconvenient. The service we received was extremely poor. The woman in charge was rude and unprofessional; she confronted us aggressively and made bizarre claims about "Booking.com chairman Mr. James" owning their dilapidated building, saying he scolded her because we arrived late, which didn’t make any sense. When we tried to explain our situation, she raised her voice and yelled at us instead of resolving the issue calmly. Her behavior was so unacceptable that we felt the need to record it for future action.

Disappointing experience due to staff

The woman was quite sly, and just as we arrived after navigating a long, narrow mountain, she started complaining about our lateness, which escalated into an argument. We realized we couldn't stay there with her, so we requested a refund. She refused to return our advance payment, forcing us to leave for our own peace of mind and seek another place. It was very disappointing and quite unpleasant!

Unpleasant experience despite good location

The 3 km journey from Nuwara Eliya town to this hotel is quite unpleasant. The road conditions are poor, making it feel unsafe, especially at night with the steep climb involved. Adding to the negativity were the racist comments from the owner or the woman managing the property. As Muslim guests, we faced discriminatory remarks that were very uncomfortable and unacceptable. We also encountered attempts to overcharge us upon arrival. Unfortunately, the rooms, service, and overall location fell significantly short of acceptable standards and did not meet even the most basic expectations of a hotel stay.

Great stay despite location mix-up

While searching for 'Mount View Cottage' in Nuwara Eliya, we stumbled upon another location with the same name in the Blackpool area, which wasn't the one we found on Google Maps. Nonetheless, the place we did find offered fantastic room service and we enjoyed a lovely room. Even though the original spot wasn't available, our overall experience was fantastic.

Lovely view, but some extra charges

We spent the night at Mount View Cottage on May 30th. The accommodations were decent, and we really appreciated the stunning view. However, the road to the hotel is somewhat narrow. Additionally, they charged us extra for a kettle and cups. All in all, we had a good experience.
