    Heartbreaking experience at Apeksha Hospital

My time at Apeksha Hospital Maharagama was incredibly distressing and heartbreaking. My mother was admitted on January 26th, and I made it clear to the medical team that she had a confirmed allergy to the antibiotic Piptaz (Piperacillin/Tazobactam). I even showed them her allergy test card and detailed her history of allergic reactions before any treatment was decided. Despite knowing this documented allergy, Dr. Somawardana chose to administer Piptaz to her. After the first dose, she began showing obvious signs of an allergic reaction. Rather than stopping the medication immediately and monitoring her closely, they didn’t take the reaction seriously. Alarmingly, a second dose of the same antibiotic was given. Following this, her allergic reaction escalated to a severe and life-threatening level. When I asked the ward doctors why a known allergen was administered, they deflected responsibility, stating that the decision was made by Dr. Somawardana. When I approached him respectfully to seek clarity on the situation, his response was extremely rude and dismissive, and he placed the blame on me instead of addressing the medical issue. After this incident, my mother was moved to Ward 2, and within two days, she passed away. As her son, I did everything I could to inform the medical team about her allergy and trusted them with her life. I firmly believe that our concerns were overlooked and that there was a significant lack of accountability and compassion in her care. The loss of my mother is the greatest pain I have ever experienced. Given this situation, I cannot recommend this doctor.
