Dishonest whale watching experience
I cannot recommend booking with this company; they are not honest. We signed up for a whale watching tour because the owner assured us it would be on a boat with fewer people, as we dislike crowded animal watching. When we inquired about how many people would be on the boat, he mentioned, "these days maybe 30 people" and promised he could arrange for a boat with fewer passengers. We agreed and made our reservation. Upon arriving at the port, we found ourselves on a cramped double-decker boat, filled with around 50 to 60 people, alongside other boats in a similar predicament, all ready to disturb the whales and dolphins. The upper deck was fully occupied. We confronted the ticket seller about his dishonesty, and he claimed, "we never know exactly how many people end up booking. When we spoke, we had 30." Since we booked at 10 PM the night before, it was clear he misled us about the boat's capacity. Given his experience, he surely knew that all boats were over 30 people. This company is untrustworthy, and they should realize that dishonesty will harm their business. We were also told there would be a vegetarian breakfast on board, but all we got was a makeshift slice of cake and a banana, which were also given to everyone else. Overall, I would not recommend whale watching in Mirissa. When whales are spotted, all 10 or more boats rush in, crowding the animals, which is disheartening and unethical. We only saw two pods of dolphins that wisely swam away from the boats. The sea conditions were severe, and many people on board were getting sick. Everyone ended up soaked due to the rough weather. We spent four hours battling the waves, trying to spot wildlife, which made for a dreadful experience.
