Disappointing stay with service issues
The hotel neglected to inform us about a road closure, even after sending a welcome email just three days prior to our arrival. We discovered this at the same time as our tuk tuk driver, who then abandoned us to trek the remaining 1km up a steep hill with heavy luggage. Upon arrival, the staff admitted they were aware of the closure but failed to notify us. Fortunately, our stay was only for two days, as getting into town via an alternative, longer, and equally steep route was quite challenging. PickMe drivers refused service, and local tuk tuks charged a minimum of 1000 LKR per trip. The online images of the hotel are misleading, making it appear much nicer than it actually is. On a positive note, our room was clean, spacious, and offered a lovely view. However, we faced issues with hot water, which was only available in the afternoons. The pool area was dirty and unusable, and the adjacent fitness room was equally unkempt, featuring a few old, broken pieces of equipment that were not usable. We didn’t dine at the hotel, so I can’t comment on the food. The WiFi connection was inconsistent. At checkout, I encountered two failed attempts to pay by card, likely due to the weak WiFi signal, which forced me to pay in cash to avoid potential issues with my card being blocked. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience that did not meet our expectations based on prior reviews.
