    Wonderful Stay at Nirbana Retreat

I had a fantastic experience staying at Nirbana Retreat with my Yoga group. The yoga shala, which overlooks the pool, offers a peaceful atmosphere, while the rooms are quite luxurious. The pool area and surroundings are beautiful as well. Mark was an outstanding host, providing excellent recommendations for local attractions and dining options. The food at the resort was fresh and delicious, and the staff were both friendly and helpful. I would definitely go back to Nirbana in a heartbeat.

    Luxurious Stay at Nirbana Retreat

We spent our last three nights in Sri Lanka at the inviting and luxurious Nirbana Retreat. Our group of 18 received a warm welcome from Mark, the fantastic owner, and throughout our stay, the friendly staff took excellent care of us. The breakfast buffet was delightful, and on our final night, we enjoyed a seafood BBQ. Nirbana is situated along a saltwater river that connects to the ocean and features a beautifully inviting pool at the perfect temperature. We even encountered the resident iguana as he strolled along the riverbank. Since we were on a yoga retreat, we loved practicing yoga sessions on the grass by the river and in the spacious covered shala. The staff even organized an impromptu coconut palm weaving workshop, demonstrating how they create their admired tablecloths. The stone garden sculptures are breathtaking. The accommodations are incredibly comfortable and visually stunning. Nirbana is just a couple of kilometers from the ocean, making it an easy walk or tuk-tuk ride away. Mark and his team ensured that our last three nights were a perfect conclusion to our trip, even recommending places to visit. I just wish we could have stayed longer in this paradise. Thank you, Mark and team 💜

    Tranquil getaway at Nirbana Retreat

I recently had the opportunity to visit Nirbana Retreat during a day trip. It's a truly serene escape, beautifully designed with the pool as the focal point upon entry. It’s genuinely stunning. The retreat is enveloped by lush jungle and features a lovely river perfect for SUP and canoeing. Mark, the owner, along with his wife and the staff, were incredibly welcoming. Thank you for hosting my daughters and me for a relaxing afternoon by the riverside.

Great Stay at a Yoga Retreat

I stayed here on March 26 during a yoga retreat, and Mark, the Australian owner, really went the extra mile to make our three-night stay unforgettable. He offered excellent restaurant suggestions, arranged transportation, and even got some wonderful wine for us. Mark was very knowledgeable and a joy to chat with. The retreat itself is gorgeous! The breakfasts were lovely—just the right size—intimate, quiet, and incredibly peaceful. While it’s not within walking distance to the beach, there are tuk tuks available nearby. I highly recommend this place! 👌

Beware of taxi scams outside hotel

If you're considering a stay at this hotel, proceed with caution. There are scam taxi drivers outside who actively block your pre-booked taxi from getting to you. They intimidate the drivers and even drive them away. This could cost you both time and money. What's worse is that the hotel staff does nothing—they remain uninvolved and silent, even when guests are facing serious issues. For your own safety and peace of mind, we strongly recommend looking for another place to stay. Relying on the taxi drivers here could lead to fares exceeding 2,000 rupees for a trip to Ahangama. While it may sometimes just be 2,000, it can often reach higher amounts—2,000, 3,000, or even 4,000 rupees. In contrast, using an Uber Pik me from this location to Ahangama will only cost you a fraction of that.
