    Great location and friendly staff

This hotel is perfectly situated for a relaxing getaway, with the beautiful beach just 50 meters away. The staff here are incredibly nice, helpful, and polite. We've been staying for twelve days and will be checking out on February 3rd, but I can't...

    Great beach resort experience

Upon arrival, we were welcomed by Prasad, who quickly proved to be incredibly helpful and resourceful. The rooms are spacious, measuring over 50 square meters, and are quite appealing. The pool is also in excellent shape and receives daily maintenance. The location is outstanding if you’re after a clean, relatively quiet beach that's about 3 kilometers long, perfect for body surfing or leisurely walks. Being right on the beach makes this resort a worthwhile choice, and I highly recommend it. Breakfast includes toast, eggs cooked to your preference, fresh fruit, and coffee or tea. We also enjoyed a few lunches and were satisfied with our meals. I suggest taking a short stroll of 100 meters to the west to reach Illuk, where their restaurant offers fantastic food, service, and atmosphere. Overall, we were pleased with our stay and felt well looked after, so we would definitely return.

    Relaxing stay with great staff

We had a delightful and peaceful stay at this accommodation, thanks to the friendly and helpful staff. The local vegetable curry was also enjoyable. The location is quite secluded, making it ideal for unwinding, and then you can head to Mirissa for some lively activity afterward. Thank you from Ireland!

Great location with room for improvement

The location on Mawella beach is fantastic. The room was decent, although the furniture layout and design caused me to bump my shins a couple of times. The grounds could use some tidying up. The swimming pool is nice, but breakfast was disappointing. We did enjoy lunch once, and dinner was also good.

    Not Worth the High Price

Avoid this place. It feels like a $40 guest house pretending to be a $150+ boutique hotel. The problems: you get the same low-quality breakfast every single day—just basic toast, cheap tea and coffee, and a 'Sri Lankan Omelette.' Cleaning only happens every three days, and the hot water situation is hit or miss. As for service, the staff is intrusive and lacks basic concierge skills. They told us local spots were 'fully booked' when they weren't, while trying to direct us to a tourist trap restaurant. There was zero effort made for our honeymoon, despite us mentioning it twice—not even a glass of champagne. You might want to consider why Prassad gets mentioned so often in the comments. On the plus side, the beach location is fantastic, and the rooms are decent (around 25 to 30 sqm); however, you are definitely getting ripped off with the pricing. Save your money and look for a room elsewhere. This place has felt like a bad joke since day one.

Room design flaws and poor service

Upon checking in, the manager warned me to be cautious when getting in and out of the bed due to a sharp ledge surrounding it. Unfortunately, I banged my shin on the corner during the night, resulting in a significant amount of bleeding. The next morning, I spoke with another guest who had experienced the same injury, and we both had bruises and cuts to show for it. I really wonder what genius thought it was a good idea to have a ledge around the bed. This room would never pass safety standards in Europe. While the room was spacious, the TV was placed too far away to watch, and it didn’t even work. There were only three tea bags, no coffee, and just one toilet roll provided. For $100 a night, I felt completely ripped off. The restaurant was empty, with all guests choosing to eat at the beach instead, which says a lot. Breakfast was mediocre at best, and the items came out at random. I was extremely dissatisfied with the misleading Booking.com photos that do not accurately reflect reality. I feel very frustrated and robbed, especially since management insisted on payment upfront and seemed indifferent to our concerns. Thankfully, we only had to endure two nights here. AVOID.

    Wonderful beachfront hotel stay

I had a fantastic three-night stay at this lovely hotel. It's a small, tranquil place right on the beachfront, making it a peaceful retreat away from the busy tourist spots. The room, more like a suite, was outstanding; it was spacious, elegantly decorated, and included a sofa, a seating area, and a large dressing area.

    Saved Our Holiday Experience

Mawella Beach Resort truly rescued our vacation! We had checked into a different place nearby that was nothing like what we expected, leaving us unsure of what to do next. We strolled down the beach and dropped in to see if they had any available rooms. Luckily, they did, and the staff went above and beyond to assist us. They arranged a three-wheeler to help transport our belongings and checked us in right away. The resort is cozy and small, with just a handful of rooms, a fantastic pool, and direct access to the beach. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed, and the service from the staff is exceptional. The food at the hotel is also excellent, in case you decide to stay in. Overall, we had a wonderful time here. The staff were delightful, and we would certainly return if we find ourselves in the area again.
