I typically spend 6 to 8 months a year in Polhena, and Sayuri is always open! They offer a fantastic view of the ocean, along with fresh juice, music, delicious food, and a friendly staff. The rooms are quite simple, but you can see turtles swimming right from your table…

The owners are incredibly accommodating, and the woman speaks excellent English! The rooms are simple and equipped with only a fan, but the breakfast was always a delightful showcase of Sri Lankan cuisine! There are just three rooms, all with a view of the sea 😍👍🏼

We stayed for one night, and the staff were very friendly while the location was excellent. The Sri Lankan breakfast was delicious, though a bit on the expensive side. The rooms were simple; the mosquito net was adequate, but the bathroom could use better maintenance, and the sheets and pillows were lacking…

The owner is very friendly, and the hotel is located right on the beach. The rooms are simple yet pleasant. There isn't any air conditioning, just a medium-sized fan. During our stay, it was quite hot, and given that the hotel has a metal roof, a larger fan would have been helpful. Fortunately, there are plenty of dining options in the vicinity.

This beachfront spot is a fantastic place to stay. The owner is incredibly friendly. The rooms are nice, clean, and straightforward. We intended to stay just one night but ended up extending our stay to two. Wow!

I visited the hotel to assess the area before making a booking. I took a moment to relax on a sunbed nearby, enjoying a cigarette while I observed my surroundings. Out of nowhere, a very rude woman from the hotel confronted me, stating that the sunbed costs 5,000 LKR. I calmly tried to explain that I was just sitting there briefly to finish my cigarette before deciding about a booking, but she was uninterested in having a conversation and insisted that I either pay or leave. So, I decided to leave. This is one of the rare instances in Sri Lanka where I encountered rudeness, and it was the first time someone was so unfriendly and unwilling to engage. If this is how guests are treated at the entrance, I can only dread what the stay would be like. Additionally, the hotel itself isn’t welcoming. The beach is crowded with locals — I appreciate local culture, but there were simply too many people, making the area feel uncomfortable and unrelaxing. To make matters worse, there’s construction happening right behind the hotel, further disrupting any sense of comfort or peace. The hotel also seems in need of renovations and better upkeep. I would definitely not recommend this place.

I had a wonderful experience at Sayuri Beach Hotel. The location is fantastic, featuring one of Sri Lanka's top beaches right at your doorstep. The sea is calm for swimming, making it a snorkeler's paradise, and there's even a chance to swim with large turtles. You can catch stunning sunrises and sunsets as well. The owners are a lovely couple who made me feel right at home :) Plus, there's delicious fresh food available throughout your stay. This has become one of my favorite places to stay in Sri Lanka. I highly recommend it!

The hotel is ideally located right on the beach, offering stunning views and opportunities for snorkeling with turtles, as well as paddling or surfing on the reef just 300 meters away. Mickey and his team are incredibly friendly and provided an excellent experience.
