    Unprofessional Nurse Behavior at Hospital

I'm writing to highlight my concerns about a nurse working the morning shift (7:00–8:00 AM) on May 21, 2025, in Room Number 5 at the Outpatient Department of the National Eye Hospital in Sri Lanka. I witnessed an elderly lady waiting for a considerable time due to the nurse's absence. When the nurse finally returned, she spoke to the patient quite disrespectfully, stating that the time was up, and the patient could no longer receive her medication. I can assure you that the patient was on time and had been waiting patiently. The nurse's conduct was unprofessional and rude, falling short of the standards expected in healthcare. Patients, especially the elderly, deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. I urge the relevant authorities to look into this issue and take necessary action. If anyone can recognize the nurse from the shift and room details, please step forward. The National Eye Hospital should be a place of care and compassion for everyone seeking help.

    Serious management issues need attention

The management here is severely lacking. The overall state of the hospital is quite disappointing. There are inadequate restroom facilities for both patients and visitors, which is a fundamental necessity. The doors are in bad shape and fail to offer safety or privacy. The restroom odor is terrible. Patients seeking treatment for eye issues might be exposed to additional health hazards because of the unsanitary conditions. I truly hope the management acts quickly to resolve these critical problems.

Avoid This Clinic at All Costs

This place is the absolute worst. I cannot recommend it to anyone. The management is lacking, as they require all patients to arrive by 6:30 AM for appointments, even for surgeries, regardless of whether you are the last patient of the day. They're clearly wasting people's time. Some patients travel from very far away only to wait until after 12 PM for treatments and checkups. The head surgeon shows no empathy towards patients; his manner of speaking is appalling.

Disappointing service and long wait times

My visit to the National Eye Hospital of Sri Lanka was disappointing due to inadequate service. I had to wait for more than an hour to see the doctor, which was particularly frustrating for those of us who had traveled from far away. The hospital needs to focus on improving efficiency for the sake of its patients. Furthermore, some staff members were not respectful or kind during their interactions, which only added to the unpleasant experience. Enhancing both the quality of service and how patients are treated could greatly improve the overall healthcare experience.

    Frustratingly Slow Emergency Service

We arrived at 3:40 AM, right on time, but were told by an attendant to wait a moment for the doctor. However, the doctor didn't show up until 4:10 AM. Best emergency unit ever 🤣💔.

Quality Eye Care with Slow Service

This is a premier eye care hospital operated by the Sri Lankan government. However, the service tends to be a bit slow and can take some time.

    Disappointing late-night service

I want to share my frustration about the service I experienced at your eye hospital around 11:00 p.m. today. When I arrived, the staff informed me that they only treat accident cases. This was surprising and left me without the assistance I urgently needed at that hour. I found the staff to be unhelpful, and their communication was neither clear nor polite. This added to my inconvenience and distress, especially since it was late at night and I was looking for immediate care. I would appreciate it if you could address this issue and ensure that patients visiting at night receive appropriate guidance and respectful treatment.

    Unprofessional and Dismissive Experience

The doctors were incredibly unprofessional and dismissive, leaving me with unanswered questions. I walked away feeling like my concerns as a patient were not valued at all. Just vision stealers.

    Awful Service and Time Wasting

Getting treatment here feels more like a clinical service than a proper medical experience. The service was utterly exhausting and terrible. This place consistently wastes people's time without any valid reason, seemingly due to the staff's fatigue. It's baffling how they overlook the weariness of Sri Lankan patients who come here seeking treatment. As a medical student, I cannot recommend this place to anyone. Patients come from far away, some with emergencies, and others with various issues that make waiting unacceptable. Even those who arrive before the hospital opens end up wasting their day. The staff's rudeness is another concern; patients visit for treatment, not for leisure. I urge the staff to improve their timeliness and service quality. I understand this is a government facility, but it shouldn't be associated with other government establishments.

Lack of Respect in Eye Care

In Sri Lankan government hospitals, particularly in eye clinics, patients frequently experience a lack of basic respect and inadequate communication. When issues arise, doctors seldom provide explanations or accept accountability. Patients are left to endure whatever procedures are administered without input. Elderly individuals often find themselves waiting for hours while doctors attend to other matters, even during designated work hours. At the medicine counters, instructions are hurried, and if you seek clarification, you are treated as a nuisance. This isn't merely a complaint; it strikes a personal chord. My mother lost vision in one eye following treatment, and upon consulting private doctors, we learned that surgeries in government hospitals are sometimes performed by interns. My grandmother received eye treatment as well; she retains some vision, but it’s not clear, and she endures ongoing pain. Though we are middle class, we still deserve respect, clear communication, and appropriate care. In matters as delicate as eyesight, patients should never feel overlooked or powerless.
