Keells on Broadway in Matara is definitely the best Keells location around. The spacious setup, extensive product selection, and fantastic service create a really enjoyable shopping environment. One standout feature is the large parking area, which is incredibly handy even during peak times. As soon as you enter, you are welcomed warmly, particularly by the friendly lady at the bag counter. Most of the staff are courteous and willing to help, contributing to the impressive overall service. The store is well-organized and fully stocked, offering everything from fresh produce and meats to baked goods, frozen items, as well as pet supplies and pharmacy products. I also appreciate the regular promotions and the Nexus point system, which enhance the shopping experience. Additionally, the significant discounts on near-expiry products are a nice perk and are conveniently located right at the entrance. Although they don’t have self-checkout options like some Colombo branches, there are plenty of counters available, ensuring that checkout is typically efficient and quick. The hours of operation (8:30 AM – 10:30 PM) are also very accommodating. Don't forget to check out the cozy seating area — it's ideal for unwinding with a coffee or snack after your shopping. Disappointing Customer Service Experience
I want to share my disappointment with the customer service at the Matara Keells supermarket. On my recent visits, I observed that some staff members had unwelcoming facial expressions and didn't show respect towards customers, which made me feel uncomfortable. I've been to other Keells locations in Colombo, where the staff are typically friendly and professional. Sadly, my experience at the Matara branch was quite the opposite. I urge that this issue be addressed and that improvements be made in customer service at the Matara branch, as customers deserve to be treated with courtesy and respect at all times. Disappointing Experience with Customer Service
I visit the store twice daily and often buy lasagna and bolognese. However, two days ago, I had a really bad experience. The bolognese was extremely salty; I couldn't eat it at all. It felt like my mouth was just full of salt. I approached the staff to request a refund or to swap it for lasagna since I was really hungry. The male employee responded, "If you don't like it, don't buy it," and the tall female cook added, "We cook this every day, and it's okay." This was a terrible interaction, especially since I've been a regular customer for six months.

This expansive store is well-organized and meets all your household needs, offering a diverse selection of products from frozen foods and fresh vegetables to bakery items, high-quality meats, pet supplies, and pharmacy essentials. The shelves are consistently stocked, making it likely you'll find everything on your shopping list. For those with a Nexus card, this branch provides regular chances to earn points on each purchase, which is a nice perk for regular shoppers. Additionally, there are frequent promotional days with special grocery offers. Notably, they have significant discounts, such as 50% and 30% off on items close to their expiration dates, conveniently displayed on a cart at the entrance. Although this branch doesn’t have self-checkout like some Colombo locations, it compensates with around eight checkout counters that keep lines moving quickly. Disappointing meal experience
I would give zero stars if that were an option. My experience was very disappointing. The chicken was overcooked, resulting in a soft, floury texture rather than the taste of well-cooked chicken. The portion size was also far too small, insufficient for even one person. Additionally, the packaging for my PickMe order was poorly done and appeared careless, which further detracted from the experience. As a Sri Lankan customer, I had higher expectations for quality and care. Serving food in this state is simply unacceptable. I truly hope Keells Matara can enhance its food quality, portion sizes, and packaging standards to prevent other customers from facing the same issues.

Frustrating experience with payment issues
Today was quite frustrating. After spending 1.5 hours shopping, I reached the counter only to find out from the cashier that card payments were down, and I couldn't buy my groceries. I inquired if there was any way to transfer money to an account, but she said no. We don’t always carry cash, and if their system is failing, that's not my fault. They should have a solution for this. Instead, she asked me to return the groceries I had spent an hour picking out. I felt like my time was completely wasted, and I left empty-handed because of their error. Is that fair? Shame on you, Keels. I won’t be shopping here again. 😑😑

Disappointing Cream Filling Ratio
I really enjoy the coffee butter bun at Keells. However, at this location, only about one out of every three buns is actually filled with cream, which is quite frustrating and disappointing. 😢😡 On a positive note, the store itself is in excellent condition.
