A Hidden Gem in Trincomalee

Ratata Café is truly a hidden treasure in Trincomalee. From the moment we entered, the warm and attentive service caught our attention — the staff are very friendly and the service is genuinely exceptional. We sampled several of their delightful traditional dishes, each packed with flavor. The menu goes beyond the typical favorites like rice & curry and kottu, featuring signature items that feel authentic and carefully crafted. The cocktails also deserve a shout-out. The bartender made an excellent drink, and what stood out to me was how he personally checked in afterward to see if the cocktail met our expectations and if we had any suggestions for improvement — that level of attention is hard to come by. Additionally, the staff's proficiency in English made everything easy, from ordering to chatting and getting recommendations. Overall, I highly recommend this place. If you're in Trincomalee and looking for fantastic food, friendly service, great cocktails, and a welcoming atmosphere, Ratata Café should definitely be on your list.

Fantastic Dinner Experience

I dined here recently and had an incredible time. The food was outstanding, likely one of the best meals I've enjoyed in quite some time. Everything was fresh, bursting with flavor, and the portion sizes were quite generous. You can really see that the kitchen knows their craft. What really impressed me was the service. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, striking just the right balance without being overbearing. They were attentive, checking in on us at just the right moments, which made the whole experience feel easy and relaxed. The ambiance of the place is also really pleasant. The music was great, the lighting was nice, and it had a chill vibe overall. We didn’t feel rushed at all, and we ended up lingering longer than we intended because we were having such a good time. I would definitely return and would gladly recommend it to anyone in search of a great dining spot.

Delicious Breakfast with Great Service

We visited for breakfast and the staff went out of their way to seat our larger group in the shade. The traditional dishes were uncomplicated but packed with flavor, perfectly spiced, and just the right portion to kick off our day! You could immediately tell the food was freshly prepared 😍

Must-visit café in Trincomalee

Ratata Café is a spot you definitely don’t want to overlook when in Trincomalee. Their Cheesy Prawn Dosa for dinner is simply delightful, and the English Breakfast is an ideal way to kick off your morning. After a stroll along the beach, be sure to try their Coconut Mint Cooler. It’s super refreshing and really hits the spot. The staff at the café are incredibly friendly, providing a true taste of Sri Lankan hospitality. Additionally, Laughing Leopard Hostel is conveniently located right next door, making it a perfect option for solo travelers seeking great food, a laid-back atmosphere, and a chance to connect with others. I highly recommend it if you’re in Trincomalee!

Fantastic dinner experience!

What a wonderful dinner! The food was delicious, the people were lovely, and the atmosphere was fantastic. I ordered the dosa filled with crispy cheese and potato, enjoyed the arrack attack cocktail, and finished off with Sri Lankan crepes for dessert! The crispy cheese dosa was the standout dish; I loved the tomato chutney so much that I had two bowls. The ginger beer, lime, and arrack cocktail was also quite enjoyable. The outdoor setting was lovely, adorned with lanterns in the garden, and I could hear local music coming from the kitchen. The staff even took the time to light several mosquito repellent burners for me. I would highly recommend this place!

Lively spot for delicious dosas

The music here is really loud! If you're okay with shouting to be heard, this place serves fantastic dosas. It's located within a hostel, and the upbeat music seems to cater to the guests by the pool. A helpful tip: they prepare a communal dinner for the hostel around 7 to 7:30pm, so it's best to order your food either before or after that time to avoid a long wait.
