Nice spot to visit a friend

I dropped by to see a friend at this place, and I have to say I like it. I didn't require any assistance myself, but from what I observed, the staff seemed fine. I appreciated that they provided air conditioning as well.

    Great care, but facilities lacking

I was admitted to Gampaha District Hospital last Saturday due to a snake bite and received treatment in the 12th ward. The doctors and nurses were incredibly helpful and attentive, which really helped me feel comfortable and confident during my stay. The support staff also did a great job keeping the ward clean and assisting patients whenever necessary. That said, the hospital facilities could use some upgrades. The toilets were not well maintained, the washroom facilities need improvement, and some of the wheelchairs were in poor condition. In summary, I truly appreciate the dedication and care of the medical and support staff, but I hope management will enhance the facilities to improve the overall patient experience.

    Exceptional Care at Gampaha Hospital

During my 5-day stay in the 12th ward of Gampaha General Hospital from April 28 to May 2, 2025, I found the staff to be incredibly kind to all patients. They also did an excellent job providing medicines and services.

    Extremely Poor Emergency Care

This is the worst hospital in Sri Lanka. I brought my grandmother here for an emergency early in the morning, and they showed no concern for her. It took over three hours to admit her to a ward. Additionally, the ladies' ward lacked enough chairs. I cannot recommend this hospital at all.

    Terrible experience after ICU transfer

I’m giving this place just 1 star, and the only reason is that the ICU saved my mother's life after she was moved from Sethma Hospital. Both my dad and I were admitted there for severe pneumonia and managed to stabilize, but my mom wasn’t as fortunate. Unfortunately, Sethma doesn't have an ICU, which is why she had to be transferred here. After about a week in the Gampaha General ICU, she made some progress and was moved to ward 4, but it was a dreadful experience for her and the rest of us. She kept telling us how the nurses ignored her, failed to listen to her concerns, and didn't assist her when she needed help going to the bathroom. One time, she asked for help and when we visited, she revealed it had been over an hour and a half since she requested assistance from a nurse. I was furious at the lack of compassion from the staff, especially since my experience at Sethma had been completely different. On top of that, the cleanliness of the place was unacceptable. There was dirt and mud on the floors, her hospital bed lacked sheets and a pillow, and the cupboard for her personal belongings was completely rusted, likely harboring germs and diseases. I genuinely feared she would contract another infection just from the ward’s environment. She is still not discharged and remains there, which worries me for her health. Update: The security is just as bad as the rest of the hospital. My dad and I were instructed to bring food and medicine to my mother because they don’t send staff to fetch medicine for patients, which seems like a flawed system for a government-run hospital. Due to heavy traffic and gas lines caused by news of the ongoing war between the USA and the Middle East, we arrived around 6:15 PM, just after visiting hours ended at 6 PM. We were only there to deliver food and medicine as requested. The security confronted me and began yelling in Sinhala about our late arrival, even though it was the staff who asked us to bring these items. Not understanding Sinhala, I asked them to repeat in English, but they simply replied with “Nah” and continued yelling at my father. A passerby kindly translated for me that we were unwelcome at this hour, regardless of the staff's request. I explained to security that my sick mother needed her medication and that I was supposed to be resting per the doctor’s orders, not running around getting medicine for another patient—that's their responsibility! After delivering the items, we left, but not before I recorded the two security personnel causing trouble.
