    Good Parking but Crowded Areas

The parking situation is quite good and sufficient. However, the channeling area tends to be very congested. As for the ETU and Inward care, I found them satisfactory, though there are a few aspects that could use improvement.

    Extremely Slow Lab Service

This is the worst lab I've ever encountered. It took three hours to get my FBC test done. They might not be using an automated machine and are counting cells manually, one by one. I definitely do not recommend this place.

    Disappointing hospital experience

The service was extremely lacking. The air conditioning in the dorm rooms doesn't work at all. The nurses treat you as if you're inconveniencing them. Even after pressing the bell, they take about an hour to respond. The only positive aspect was the cannula placement, but there are staff members who struggle with it. I dealt with a blood clot for months because of this. This hospital is not suitable for anyone I know; it's a waste of money. Additionally, the cleaning staff fails to properly clean the restrooms. Overall, it's a very poor hospital where you often have to purchase medicine from outside for over a month if you choose to go there.

    Frustrating service experience

I had a really negative experience here. It seemed like the staff only wanted to assist us when they thought a surgery was necessary (I assume due to the cost?). Once the insurance confirmed that a brace and crutches would suffice, it took an exhausting five hours to receive them. I had to keep returning to the pharmacy for the brace and crutches. I would recommend looking elsewhere for care. On a positive note, the staff were all very friendly, but it felt like they were either poorly equipped or not properly trained.

    Uncomfortable experience at Co-op Hospital

My wife, our 3-year-old daughter, and I went to Co-op Hospital Matara. After seeing the doctor, we were directed to the X-ray unit. Unfortunately, the X-ray staff was male, which meant my wife had to enter the room alone since there was no female assistant available. I couldn't accompany her because I was holding our child, which created a very uncomfortable and stressful situation for us. We hope the hospital management can enhance patient comfort and privacy in the future by ensuring female assistance is available for female patients during X-ray procedures, particularly for families with young children.

    Frustrating experience at Matara hospital

I would give this place a zero if possible. This hospital in Matara has incredibly unhelpful staff. Initially, I called to inquire about the prices for the following services: - Chest X-ray with report - US scan of Abdomen - ECG The lady in the laboratory told me to reach out to the channeling center for the rates. When I called, the girl who answered seemed clueless about my inquiry. Without acknowledging me, she transferred my call to another girl. After I explained my situation again, I was transferred once more without any notice, which was extremely frustrating. I think it was the same girl who initially answered. Eventually, I was given the contact of Maduwanthi to ask about the rates, which I would rate as five-star service. When I managed to reach Ms. Maduwanthi, she was not at the hospital but still took the time to note my details and called me back with the rates. Out of frustration, I decided to visit the hospital in person. I greeted the staff at the counter, but they seemed to be completely zoned out, as they didn’t even respond to my greeting. When I told one lady that I wanted a full body check-up, she directed me to the front counter, where yet another rude staff member told me to go to OPD. At OPD, I waited while some staff members were engaged in a social gathering. One staff member didn’t know how to help me and asked a male doctor, who then sent me to Ms. Maduwanthi again. After explaining my needs to her, she told me I needed a letter from a doctor for the US scan. While she was writing the letter, another staff member instructed me to proceed with the ECG first, then to get the X-ray. The guy at the X-ray gave me a token and told me to pay at the counter. I also asked for the ECG payment at that time. After completing that, I was completely lost about where to go next due to the lack of proper guidance. I ended up back with Maduwanthi, who asked me to take the letter to the channeling counter to schedule a date for the US scan. This will definitely be my last visit to this hospital. No one wants to pay for a service and then experience such disorganization. It's clear that the staff needs training in work ethics and professionalism; even management seems to reflect these issues based on the reviews.

    Disappointing Care and Facilities

Our experience admitting an elderly family member to this hospital was extremely disappointing. The nursing staff and attendants lacked supportiveness and did not provide the necessary level of care for an elderly patient. There were multiple instances where family members were asked to apply prescribed medicated creams, which should have been part of the nursing care. Scheduled bathing sessions for the patient were continually ignored, and we were informed that the bath would be postponed until the next day. This raised concerns about the potential extension of the patient’s stay and the associated hospital charges. At times, staff outright stated they couldn’t help with bathing and directed family members to do it instead. Most troubling was the suggestion that the elderly female patient should be bathed on the balcony, despite having a bathroom available in the room. This displayed a complete disregard for the patient's privacy, dignity, and comfort. Due to the inadequate standard of care and lack of support, we felt we had no choice but to request an early discharge and transfer to another hospital for better treatment. Additionally, the quality of facilities was poor. Meals often arrived on damaged or broken plates, and drinks were served in cups with broken handles. Given the high costs associated with hospital care, this was particularly disappointing. When we raised concerns about the broken items, staff explained they continued to use them to avoid waste. However, patients and their families deserve better hygiene and care, especially when facing substantial bills. I truly hope the hospital management takes these issues seriously and implements changes to improve staff accountability, patient care standards, and respect for patient dignity. No one should experience this level of neglect while receiving medical treatment.

    Disappointing Experience at Co-Operative

This place is a total waste of money and time. Despite being called Co-Operative, there was nothing cooperative about this hospital. My father was admitted for just two and a half days, and we left without any proper treatment or improvement. The charges are exorbitantly high compared to hospitals in Colombo, and the quality of service is very poor. The rooms were dirty, the service fell short of expectations, and billing was inaccurate. For the amount we paid, we expected at least basic cleanliness and professionalism, but both were completely absent. I'm thoroughly disappointed with this hospital and wouldn't recommend it for anything beyond a simple consultation.

    Poor service in waiting area

They seem overly focused on conserving electricity. They turned off the lights in the patient waiting area, leaving us in the dark, and instead of turning them back on, they suggested we move to a different spot with light. It’s quite ridiculous. We were seated in a designated waiting area for patients.

Convenient Location but Crowded on Weekends

Co-Operative Hospital in Matara is situated near the Nilwala River, making it easy to locate. A major plus is the ample parking, which is quite convenient for those arriving by car. However, the hospital tends to get quite busy on weekends and during peak times. If you're driving, it's wise to factor in extra time as wait times can extend during these hours. The service is generally okay — acceptable but occasionally sluggish when the hospital is crowded. While the location and parking are definite advantages, there's room for improvement in managing the crowds on weekends.
