I've visited this place a few times, and the food is consistently excellent. However, the service leaves much to be desired. We dined here on a Sunday for the Ape Kama, having made a reservation for seven people. Given the buffet's price and the number of diners present, the service felt quite lacking and understaffed. Unfortunately, the poor service overshadowed the meal, even though the food itself was fantastic.

Please avoid this place. The tonic water we received is a reflection of the restaurant’s quality. It was a very disappointing experience. The food was poor, the service was slow, and the napkins had an unpleasant smell. I really hope the management considers my feedback and makes significant changes to restore this once-iconic establishment to its former glory.

This place is an old favorite of mine. I stayed on the third floor with a stunning sea view. The food was decent, but it could definitely be improved. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet in the morning, which was excellent. However, I felt the room service menu could use some enhancements. I don’t mean to sound negative; there's always room for improvement. The staff were fantastic—very polite and helpful. I plan to return to this hotel over and over again. I truly loved my stay here.

I've enjoyed the breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets at the Governor's Restaurant, situated in the Mount Lavinia Hotel. This hotel and restaurant have a rich history and plenty of stories to share, and the ambiance reflects much of that heritage. However, both the food and the service could use a bit more vibrancy; they seem to have lost some of the cultural flair they once showcased. Still, it’s a spot you should definitely check out.

I recently organized a business lunch at The Governor’s Restaurant, and it turned out to be a wonderful experience. Despite the sweltering Colombo heat, the restaurant stays pleasantly cool due to its lovely seaside view and the refreshing sea breeze that circulates throughout the space. The food truly shone, particularly the authentic Sri Lankan dishes. I highly recommend the Kuruluthuda (heirloom red rice)—it paired wonderfully with their dhal and vegetable curries. It’s a refined way to savor traditional local flavors in a setting that combines history with freshness. The blend of colonial architecture, the ocean breeze, and the high-quality food makes this an ideal location for a noteworthy business meeting. It’s a must-visit if you’re looking to escape the city’s heat while enjoying an exceptional meal.
