I'm currently checked in and enjoying a great spot near Keels and public transport, with the beach close by. The area is clean, and the kitchen appears very well maintained. The staff is friendly, making it a welcoming place. As a single lady, I definitely feel comfortable here and would love to return.

The boat ride was truly incredible! Everything was well-organized — the boat was comfortable, the crew was friendly, and the views were absolutely breathtaking. It provided a wonderful opportunity to unwind, appreciate the sea, and feel a genuine sense of freedom. The vibe was calm and enjoyable, making the experience truly memorable. I would certainly do it again and highly recommend it to everyone!

If you're searching for a place that feels more like a home than a hotel, Oshan Home is the perfect choice. From the moment I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by the newly renovated house featuring tasteful interiors, which are refreshingly devoid of the overly decorative style often found in tourist lodgings. The place was impeccably clean and situated right where the local river meets the ocean, just about 50 meters from the water. The atmosphere is authentic and tranquil, with Polhena's small local beach just around the corner—far from the tourist bustle yet only a short distance from Matara's town center, where you can find various amenities and a larger beach. Oshan, the owner, offers river safaris where you can see crocodiles, monitor lizards, different bird species, and even an engaging monkey family that loves interacting with people (a pack of biscuits will make you quite popular with them 🙂). About 10 km to the west lies Mirissa, with Weligama slightly further, both of which are livelier areas with beachfront restaurants, diving opportunities, whale watching, and baby sea turtles making their first journey into the sea. Surfers will also find bigger waves here. If you venture inland, you'll be treated to stunning tea plantations and nature that will leave you in awe. But what truly stands out is the warmth of Oshan, his wife, and their young son, who made me feel like part of their family during my stay. The food was excellent, and I enjoyed fun evening gatherings filled with pleasant moments and good company. Oshan's father, a designer skilled in traditional Sri Lankan batik and the creative force behind the house's interior, along with his son, could easily be mistaken for Bob Marley’s brothers 🙂. Engaging with the locals is a significant advantage, as they'll share insights on where to go, what to see, and what to avoid. The only slight drawback was that the internet speed sometimes didn’t meet my work requirements, although it was adequate for everyday tasks and streaming movies. Oshan mentioned he plans to improve it, so future guests needing reliable internet for remote work might find it upgraded. I wholeheartedly recommend Oshan Home to anyone seeking an authentic Sri Lankan experience—it's not just a hotel, but a true home. It's a stay you'll cherish.

This is a lovely little guest house situated in Martara, right where the river meets the sea. I rated it 5 stars for several reasons: - The rooms are modern, stylish, and clean, featuring a spacious terrace. - It has a fantastic location with beautiful views. - Oshan, the host, is a genuinely nice guy who speaks fluent English. - He also has his own boat and offers crocodile and monkey safaris on the river. - The family serves very tasty and healthy food. - Plus, the price offers excellent value for money. Oshan is currently working on adding 4 new rooms on the first floor, bringing the total to 7. With his eye for modern design combined with local art elements, he is well on his way to creating a charming boutique hotel/guesthouse. I had a wonderful time there! Thank you so much!

We had a fantastic time on the Matara River with Oshan and his nephew. They pointed out the cutest baby crocodiles and a variety of birds, bats, and monkeys—it was truly beautiful! Oshan is such a friendly and cool guy, and his hotel is really lovely! Don’t think twice, just go and enjoy!

Our experience at Oshan Home Guest House was genuinely delightful. The room was beautiful, featuring a breathtaking ocean view along with WiFi, a mosquito net, and hot water. The host family—Oshan, his wife, his father, and their adorable child—greeted us with such warmth and kindness. Oshan organized a river safari for us, which turned out to be incredible. He has a keen eye for spotting crocodiles and shared many fascinating insights during the trip. After the safari, we enjoyed a delicious seafood meal that showcased a variety of ingredients and flavors, although it was pricier than dining out at a restaurant. The breakfast also changed daily, always fresh and tasty. The family was exceptionally attentive, ensuring we were well cared for. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I wholeheartedly recommend staying here. The hosts are truly friendly and nurturing people.

Natalie and I felt right at home at Oshans Guesthouse. The food was incredibly tasty, particularly the chicken dish we had for dinner, which was marinated to perfection. We also took part in a river safari with the host, and it turned out to be an amazing experience. We spotted crocodiles, bats, and monkeys while feeling safe and well-guided throughout. During our time there, the warmth and attentiveness of him and his family made our visit truly memorable. The rooms were spotless, beautifully designed, and the view of the lake was just perfect. A must-try is the passion fruit juice—it really boosts your mood! We highly recommend this guesthouse for the start or end of a trip; it’s an ideal spot to unwind and reflect before heading home or to kick off your journey. We would definitely return.
