I spent three nights here and was really happy with the service. The rooms are quite nice and spacious. The staff and owners are very welcoming. The Sri Lankan breakfast is definitely worth the price. However, the western breakfast could use some enhancements, like adding butter instead of margarine, a better toast bread, and some quality jam. Overall, I had a positive experience.

My husband and I sought a beachside escape that was free from the usual tourist crowds so we could unwind after nearly two weeks in Sri Lanka. We chose to stay at Spice of Ceylon for two nights. I had the pleasure of speaking with the owner, Elisabeth, who, along with her staff, are truly wonderful. The property exudes an old-world charm with spacious rooms, plenty of books to read, puzzles, a lovely staircase, a yoga studio, and balconies perfect for watching the sunset. Our bed and pillows were delightfully soft and comfortable, and they even provided mosquito repellent. Thank you for a lovely stay.

We visited for a day trip. The owner was quite accommodating. The pool was fantastic and the food was tasty. The rooms offered plenty of space, and the prices were reasonable. However, they could use more parking space.

My wife, baby, and I had a lovely experience during our stay. The property is clean and well-kept, and we found the pool to be very tidy. The rooms were spacious and comfortable as well. The rates for the rooms were reasonable, and we enjoyed the delicious food. The manager and staff were friendly and provided good service. The only downsides were the limited parking and the meal prices, which felt a bit high. Overall, we were pleased with our stay and would gladly return.

The owners, who are lovely Swedes, truly take care of their guests. It's a peaceful getaway right by the sea with no distractions around. The rooms are quite spacious, clean, and comfortable. While the food is decent, breakfast comes at an additional cost, and there's no other dining option in the vicinity!

Overall, this is definitely my favorite place I’ve stayed so far. The location, the people, the room, and the food all score at least a 9+, but what truly distinguishes this place is the staff, especially the owner, Elisabeth! They even washed all my clothes before I departed - which is incredibly helpful for a backpacker! While the nearby town of Chilaw isn’t particularly vibrant, there’s still enough to keep you entertained. The hotel will arrange any Tuktuk you need, and no request seemed too much to handle. I rate Spice of Ceylon a 9.8 and really hope to fit in another 48 hours there before I leave Sri Lanka in mid-February.

This place is absolutely stunning! Although we only spent a night, we could have easily enjoyed a longer stay. It's located in a serene, untouched area with a direct view of the beach. The owners, Elisabeth and Max, are delightful and took excellent care of us. Our room was lovely—spacious and beautifully decorated, with a very comfy bed and high-quality linens. The yoga studio with a beach view was an added perk, and we were fortunate to participate in an afternoon class. The chef is outstanding; we had a simple yet delicious vegetable fried rice for lunch and a flavorful Sri Lankan prawn curry for dinner. The continental breakfast the next morning, featuring fruit, an omelette, and toast, was just as delightful. I can't recommend this place enough!

Whenever you find yourself passing through Chilaw, make sure to stop at this place. Mrs. Elisabeth was incredibly welcoming and truly the heart of the property. She went above and beyond to ensure our stay was memorable. I also want to mention Nishantha, who was very helpful. The breakfast was fantastic, and my family really enjoyed our time here.

Spice of Ceylon is a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are spacious and well-furnished, and the staff is delightful. The food is excellent, and there's a beautiful pool and gardens for relaxation. The location is peaceful, friendly, and just a short walk from the beach. The owners, Max and Elizabeth, are incredibly kind and accommodating. We didn't want to leave! Highly recommended.
