Memorable company outing by the beach

We organized a company outing for about 19 people, and it was an unforgettable experience. The venue had a variety of activities available, including a swimming pool, billiards, chess, cricket, badminton, and basketball. The staff were exceptionally friendly and ensured we had a great time. The food was tasty, and the beach view, particularly the serene sunset, was stunning. I highly recommend this place for a vacation, day trip, or even an overnight stay!

Beautiful beach getaway with great food

I had a fantastic experience at Calypso Sunset Beach Hotel in Iranawila! The food was consistently delicious—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented each time. The garden is breathtaking and impeccably maintained, making it an ideal spot for relaxation or a leisurely stroll. The staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful, and always made us feel at home. Overall, it's a serene and lovely place to unwind. I highly recommend it for anyone seeking a peaceful beach retreat.

    Magical Honeymoon at Calypso Sunset

Our honeymoon at Calypso Sunset Beach Hotel was truly enchanting. From the moment we stepped in, it felt like we were in a postcard scene. We booked the sunset suite, which was absolutely gorgeous. The beach views were stunning, especially at sunrise. The room had a lovely decor, featuring romantic details like flower petals on the bed and a fruit platter. Our suite was perfect — spacious, tastefully decorated, and it opened up to a private balcony with sweeping sea views. Each morning, we awoke to the sound of soft waves and the beautiful sight of the sun rising over the water. The bed was beautifully arranged, the room was spotless, and every detail (including the welcome wedding songs, rose petals, and fruit platter) showed they recognized we were celebrating something special. We also hosted a private family dinner on the rooftop as part of our wedding festivities, and the experience was exceptional. The rooftop was beautifully set up and thoughtfully arranged for our group. What made this dinner memorable was how smoothly everything unfolded — it felt personal and effortless, allowing our family to truly savor the moment together without any stress. The staff were friendly, attentive, and went out of their way to make our stay memorable. Every request was met with a smile, and they remembered our names and preferences, which added a nice personal touch. If you’re searching for a dreamy, luxurious, and unforgettable honeymoon, Calypso Sunset Beach Hotel is the place to be. It created memories we will treasure forever. We’re already planning to return for our anniversary!

    Nightmare stay at Calypso Sunset

In March 2025, I spent a couple of days at the Calypso Sunset hotel, booking two rooms for my family. Unfortunately, what should have been a holiday turned into a nightmare, overshadowing any enjoyment we might have had. On the positive side: - The rooms were very clean and spacious, equipped with a Smart TV (via Dialog Vue). - The support staff was reactive (not proactive) in fixing minor issues. - They provided some toys and a bouncy castle for my child at no extra cost. - We had the chance to enjoy the pool and beach, as we were the only guests. However, there were significant downsides: - The hotel management was quite poor. Despite being the only guests, the offered rooms had issues that the support staff had to address. Shouldn’t management have checked these beforehand? - On our second day, we ordered Sri Lankan rice and curry for lunch at 9:30 AM. The chef suggested a few curries, which sounded fine, so we placed our order and went to explore Chilaw city. At noon, we received a call stating the manager had not approved our order and that we needed to pay around 3000 LKR per person for lunch with items we didn't even want. We ended up canceling and wasted hours looking for another place to eat instead of enjoying a meal at the hotel. - Due to doubts about their service, we chose to dine at Nilawin Hotel in Chilaw for dinner, where the price, portion size, and service were excellent. - The poor management and communication led to wasted time driving around for meals and even put us at risk of vehicle accidents on the dark Ambakandawila road at night. - The prices for standard food items were outrageous, and the service was lacking. The menu we received at the hotel differed from what was sent over WhatsApp (attached), with fewer options and higher prices. When questioned, they claimed it was an outdated menu due to a management change. - We only had two meals at the hotel (dinner on the first day and breakfast on the second). Dinner was decent but lacked any wow factor—better fried rice and kottu can be found at a night kade near my home for half the price. Breakfast was a disaster, featuring half-cooked string hoppers, and the chef admitted he forgot to check before serving us. They later provided nadu rice with bread and offered a discount, but we traveled all that way for sub-par meals. - The bathroom experience was disappointing. Although the rooms were well-kept, the bathroom had issues. The mixed bath was broken initially but was fixed after we complained, yet the water pressure was minimal. The faucet water wasn't very clean, forcing us to buy 5-liter bottles for drinking, which they charged us for. - The swimming pool was small; it’s hard to enjoy a swim with just four adults in it. Despite the positive reviews, our experience was unfortunate and ruined our stay. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone I know. A tip for future guests: make sure to get everything in writing before arriving at this hotel.

    Great beachfront location and service

The location is incredibly fresh, right by Chilaw beach. The rooms are nearly of high-end quality, and the maintenance is good as well. The staff is very friendly and always eager to assist. Prices are reasonable for both the rooms and the food. We enjoyed the beautiful views of the sunrise and sunset. Highly recommended.
