I attended a wedding reception that left much to be desired. When I asked for finger bowls, the manager made a comment and said it wasn't part of their agenda. We also struggled with drink service; after informing the waiter, only two glasses of water were provided for a table of twelve. Additionally, the air conditioning was quite weak.

I had a terrible experience with the reception service. On August 16, 2025 (Saturday), I confirmed with a hotel receptionist that we could take our lunch to go. We even talked about the menu and the prices, and I confirmed my arrival. However, when I showed up today, August 17, 2025 (after traveling all the way from Madampe), the security officer informed me that the hotel was closed and that the chefs were not at work. This is incredibly unprofessional and very disappointing given that I received prior confirmation. If I could, I would rate Chilaw City Hotel with 0 stars.👎👎 I definitely do not recommend it at all.

The service and rooms here were extremely disappointing, but the location is great. It's unfortunate because the staff seemed more interested in arguing than providing decent service.

The hotel is quite dated and could use some updates. Although my overall experience wasn't great, I found the room service staff to be extremely kind and respectful.

The focus here was clearly on the food, not the environment. We visited for a family gathering, eager for a tasty meal, but we ended up extremely let down. Every dish, from the appetizer to the dessert, was disappointing. I've never encountered food this poor. It’s hard to convey just how lacking the whole experience was.

Our experience was quite disappointing – we left right away. The rooms were infested with mosquitoes and the bathroom cleanliness was lacking. It's clear that the hotel hasn't seen proper renovations in quite some time; everything felt worn and poorly looked after. The room was off-putting, the shower was malfunctioning, and the lighting was dim and dreary. The overall hygiene and state of the place were unacceptable. Feeling uncomfortable, we chose to leave without spending the night. I definitely wouldn't recommend it.

I had ordered my meal in advance, but I ended up waiting far too long at Chilaw City Hotel. Even with my order placed ahead of time, the staff appeared unprepared and didn’t offer a clear reason for the delay. There was no apology or attempt to manage the situation properly. This kind of service is really frustrating and reflects a lack of organization and consideration for customers’ time. Overall, it was a rather disappointing experience. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you prioritize prompt and dependable service.

During our short visit to Chilaw, we were happily surprised by our stay here. The property sits directly across from the Indian Ocean and has amazing potential with just a few small improvements. Sudheera and his team were incredibly welcoming.

I had a terrible experience here. The room was incredibly dusty, and both the bed linen and towels were not clean. There were even empty bottles left behind by the last guest. The air conditioner was also filthy, which made us feel unwell the following morning. When we brought these concerns to the receptionist's attention, he showed no interest and lacked professional communication skills. Our complaints were essentially ignored with no response or help provided. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone as the cleanliness, customer service, and overall standards were quite unsatisfactory.
