During our stay in May 2025, we found the staff to be courteous and accommodating. However, the overall experience didn't quite match the steep price we paid. We were rather let down by the food quality, which clearly requires substantial enhancement.

This is a lovely spot with exceptional customer service. The meals were tasty, and the rooms were kept in great condition. Overall, it was a really enjoyable stay. It's also a perfect location for a quick train tour that showcases the best scenery.

The rooms are spacious yet cozy, offering comfort with simple but thoughtful amenities. Guests will likely appreciate the serene atmosphere, fresh mountain air, and the distinctive view of the train line that lends the hotel its name. Food is another standout aspect – the meals are tasty, featuring a nice mix of Sri Lankan and continental dishes. We had a fantastic time at the train view chalet. The atmosphere is lovely, tranquil, and perfectly situated for sightseeing. The staff, along with the manager, are always attentive to ensure your comfort. The food is fantastic (kudos to the chef). It's also very suitable for kids, with rabbits, guinea pigs, a fish pedicure, and trains passing by multiple times a day. This is a must-visit if you're in the area. We stayed here for two nights and found the service to be excellent. While our room lacked a minibar, it was clean and the facilities were well-maintained. The food was delicious; their Sri Lankan breakfast was enjoyable, and the dinner options were also appealing. Given the price, it's definitely a good deal, plus you can see the trains go by from either your room or the restaurant.

During my 8-day visit to Sri Lanka before heading to the Maldives, I stayed at the Kingsbury in Colombo, the Queens Hotel in Kandy, and finally, the Train View Chalet. I mention the first two hotels to highlight my preference for comfort in my accommodations.

We enjoyed an amazing few days at Train View Chalet. The staff went above and beyond, showcasing the best of Sri Lankan hospitality. The food was abundant and delicious, and the rooms were lovely. Falling asleep to the sounds of flowing water and wildlife was incredibly calming. The gardens were stunning, filled with wildlife that our little boy adored. The natural swimming pool was especially refreshing. Organizing excursions was easy, and they turned out to be fantastic.
