    Great budget hotel near the beach

    This charming little hotel in Potuvil is just about 15 minutes away from Arugambay, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing getaway on a budget, offering fantastic value. During our stay, we explored the Arugambay area and took a safari on the Potuvil lagoon. The beach, perfect for catching the sunrise, is conveniently located right in front of the hotel. The property features a pool and a viewing deck that provides a stunning ocean view where you can lounge on the armchairs, read, or simply unwind with friends. The cabanas, or "Kudils," are basic yet clean and well-kept, equipped with AC and hot water. We opted for a poolside/Oceanside Kudil. The kitchen may have a limited selection, but the food is tasty, and the staff is friendly and incredibly helpful. As a side note, I’ve heard from past guests that their king coconut and lime juice is exceptional, although it wasn’t available during our visit.

    Disappointing Experience at Paper Moon Kudils

    In April 2025, we visited Paper Moon Kudils after being drawn in by stunning photos and rave 5-star reviews on Google. Sadly, our experience fell short of those expectations. We had booked a land view room, but were taken aback to find these rooms are situated away from the main area that includes the seaside rooms, pool, and restaurant. This meant we had to trek a good distance every time we wanted to access the pool, beach, or dining options. Additionally, the entrance road to the hotel is quite narrow, and we encountered several stray dogs, which made our walks a bit uncomfortable. The pool was disappointingly small—not at all what the pictures suggested—and during our off-season stay, the beach right in front of the hotel was unsuitable for swimming. We had to head over to Whisky Point to find a beach where we could swim. The food was another area of disappointment. It lacked flavor and proper preparation. For instance, they served fried rice without any gravy, and the string hoppers with dhal curry at breakfast had the worst dhal curry I've ever experienced. We also found the food prices to be high, especially with added VAT and service charges. With no other dining options nearby, we felt compelled to eat at their restaurant, which gave us a sense of having no real choice. Overall, the place didn't meet the online image. While it may appeal to some travelers, those seeking the comfort and convenience depicted in the pictures and reviews might find themselves let down, just as we were.

    Beautiful beach getaway with great service

    We had an amazing time at Paper Moon Kudils! The atmosphere is lovely and tranquil, located right by Whisky Point, offering breathtaking ocean views and excellent surfing. The accommodations are straightforward yet impeccably clean and comfortable, while the outdoor spaces are ideal for relaxation. The staff was exceptionally friendly and always eager to assist with any requests. The food was also fresh and tasty! I highly recommend this spot for anyone seeking a relaxed beach retreat with genuine Sri Lankan hospitality. I will definitely return! 🌴✨

    Great beach getaway at Paper Moon Kudils

    I spent three nights at Paper Moon Kudils, and it was a delightful beach retreat. The cabanas are tidy, comfortable, and located just a short walk from Whisky Point Beach, making them ideal for watching the sunrise and enjoying a relaxing atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and assisted in organizing a boat safari at Pottuvil Lagoon, which was a memorable adventure featuring crocodiles, elephants, and stunning birds. The food was fresh and flavorful, particularly the seafood, and the pool overlooking the ocean was a fantastic place to relax. This is an excellent choice for anyone who appreciates tranquility, nature, and simplicity. Highly recommended! 🌴✨

    Relaxing Afternoon at Paper Moon Kudils

    I spent a delightful afternoon at Paper Moon Kudils as an outside guest. For just 1000 LKR, I was able to enjoy the pristine pool and sun lounger. Since I visited during the low season, I had the place to myself, but the staff were incredibly welcoming. The location is stunning and offers a peaceful atmosphere.

    Paper Moon Kudils is a fantastic spot for a relaxing getaway! Located right by the beach, it provides a serene, safe, and tranquil environment. The rooms are tidy, comfortable, and equipped with good air conditioning. The pool area is impressive, and the restaurant serves tasty food. However, what really makes this place special is the hospitality— the staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating, making us feel right at home from the moment we got there.     Charming stay with fantastic staff

    We truly enjoyed our time at Paper Moon Kudils. 🌴 After a few hectic accommodation experiences during our trip to Sri Lanka, reaching this place was a breath of fresh air. It's simple yet full of charm: the pool, the palm trees, the beachfront location, the spacious room, the coconuts, and the laid-back vibe made everything feel really special. However, the highlight was definitely the staff. Everyone was incredibly kind and genuinely attentive. This morning, they even organized a surprise birthday breakfast for my boyfriend right by the ocean, complete with balloons, cake, decorations, and breakfast. They were so enthusiastic and a bit nervous about making it perfect, and it turned out to be one of the sweetest moments of our trip that we will always cherish. Thank you so much for making us feel at home in Arugam Bay! 🤍

    ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Hidden Gem Near Arugam Bay! If you find yourself in Arugam Bay, I strongly suggest spending at least a day at Paper Moon Kudils. Situated about 15 minutes from the bustling Arugam Bay area, it serves as an ideal refuge from the crowds, allowing you to truly relax. We spent a day there to enjoy some tranquility, and it was just what we needed. The lovely beachfront kudils were cozy, charming, and immersed in nature. With direct access to the beach, a delightful pool, and hardly any guests around, it felt like a private sanctuary. One of the highlights was waking up early to witness the sunrise. Whiskey Point, known for its stunning sunrises, made this experience even more special as we enjoyed such a beautiful start to our day. The hotel staff also arranged a lagoon safari for us, which became a standout moment of our visit. Cruising through the serene lagoon, spotting different birds and wildlife, and soaking in the peaceful atmosphere was truly enchanting and something you shouldn't miss. The food was tasty, the rooms were top-notch, and the staff were remarkably kind, attentive, and helpful during our stay. After the vibrant vibe of Arugam Bay, this place struck the perfect balance of relaxation and peace. A fantastic experience from beginning to end. We would gladly return and highly recommend it to anyone seeking a serene beachfront getaway in Sri Lanka.
