When I arrived at Beach Life Uppuveli, the owner asked me to cancel our room because he had overbooked it. He promised an upgrade outside of what we had booked. We experienced this for two days before being moved again. After checking Google reviews, it seems this happens frequently. His attitude is quite poor and not at all welcoming, which was surprising as I’ve never faced such treatment during a booking. He even insulted my girlfriend. Additionally, it appears the owner cancels the reservations of anyone who has had a negative experience so they can't leave a bad review. A quick glance at the Google reviews confirms this isn’t an isolated incident. To wrap up, the rooms also left much to be desired in terms of cleanliness; we encountered multiple cockroaches during our stay.

The room was fantastic! It’s the best one I've stayed in so far - new, spacious, with a comfortable bed, air conditioning, and an excellent shower and bathroom. We were on the first floor and had glimpses of the ocean from our balcony. There was also a nice window and a bar fridge in the room! It’s just a short walk down to the beach and an amazing restaurant nearby. Otherwise, you can take a tuk-tuk for 300 LKR to many other restaurants!

We initially booked our stay at Surf Reef Beach through booking.com, which is the sister hotel to this one. Upon arrival, the owner offered us an air-conditioned room at a discounted rate since he had availability. We were relocated to this hotel, and it was absolutely delightful! The place is newly renovated, and the rooms were spotless, featuring both a fan and air conditioning. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and I had the best sleep of my trip! It's a family-run business, and we also dined at their restaurant, La Bashi, where the food was amazing. The owner and his family are very nice, and I will definitely return.

I had a very frustrating experience with the staff at this guest house. When I reached out to ask about prices and specifics, the person who answered the phone was remarkably rude. It felt like he was completely clueless about...

We had a fantastic stay! The room was spotless and well-equipped, just a quick stroll from the beach. The owner was very welcoming and had a good command of English. Plus, there’s a charming patio area ideal for unwinding. I highly recommend this spot!

This place is located right next to the beach, offering a serene atmosphere surrounded by nature. The room was spacious and impeccably clean, which contributed to a very restful sleep. The staff were friendly and always ready to assist with any questions you might have.

Before making a reservation, it's wise to check out both the negative reviews and the owner's replies on Booking.com and Google. Many of the problems we faced have been mentioned by previous guests, and some of his responses seem misleading and at times even disrespectful or sexist towards female travelers. Here are a few things to keep in mind for future visitors: - The owner might calculate the LKR amount using the Euro exchange rate rather than the USD rate shown on Booking.com, which could lead to a much higher price. - He persistently tried to persuade us to cancel our Booking.com reservation, which we felt would complicate our ability to leave a review. - The tours and scooter rentals provided through the hotel were pricier than nearby alternatives. Regarding our stay: We booked a Deluxe Double Room for five nights. The room appeared clean and modern, but after our second and third nights, both my girlfriend and I began experiencing severe itching and bite marks on our ankles, leading us to suspect bed bugs. When we requested a room change, the owner outright denied the possibility of bed bugs and demanded we provide proof. After examining the mattress, we found what we thought could be one, but he dismissed our concerns and insisted there was no issue. He eventually agreed to let us switch rooms, but only if we canceled our Booking.com reservation. We explained that this was unnecessary, but he kept insisting, making the conversation increasingly uncomfortable. He invaded our personal space and spoke in an angry, threatening tone. Things escalated when he marked us as "no-shows" on Booking.com, even though we had already stayed three nights. During our discussion, he took our phone from us and didn't return it right away; we had to take it back ourselves. Due to all this, particularly his behavior, we decided to leave two nights early. Initially, he refused to refund us, but eventually, he did refund one night. To the owner: please listen to your guests when they express concerns instead of immediately blaming them. If several guests independently report potential bed bugs, there might truly be an issue. Not every negative review is from a fake person or someone with a mental disorder, as you often suggest in your responses. While the rooms are modern and have potential, given our experience, we cannot recommend this property.
