Friendly and Welcoming Stay at Bunkalow Kandy

From the moment I stepped in until I left, the team at Bunkalow Kandy was incredibly friendly, warm, and accommodating. The hostel itself is spotless and well-kept, providing a cozy and serene environment. Its location is very convenient, and I had no trouble ordering food through PickMe Foods with quick access. The staff suggested local activities, and I particularly enjoyed the traditional Kandyan dance at Oak Ray, which enhanced my experience. As a solo female traveler, I felt safe and at home here. Plus, there’s a lovable resident dog that adds to the inviting vibe of the place. In summary, I wholeheartedly recommend Bunkalow Kandy for anyone visiting the area—especially for solo travelers seeking a safe, clean, and friendly environment.

Great experience with lovely ambiance

We had a fantastic experience. Sumith is the most wonderful receptionist I've ever encountered. The breakfast was fantastic, and the overall atmosphere of the place is just delightful.

Disappointing Service Experience

The customer service was lacking. Upon arrival, I went to check in, only to discover that the private room we had reserved was unavailable. Initially, they claimed the occupant was ill, but it turned out they simply wanted to extend their stay. Instead of informing us that the room was booked, they offered us a stay in the dorms with a small discount, showing a lack of understanding about how frustrating this was. The hostel itself was acceptable, but the shared bathroom was dirty and used by three different dorms of four people each. Additionally, the rooms lacked curtains around the beds, and we had to share three plug sockets among four guests. I wouldn't come back; it was a really poor experience. (They even canceled my booking while I was checking in, preventing me from leaving a review on Hostelworld.)

Great stay with helpful staff

We had a fantastic experience at this hostel! The room was tidy and pleasant, and the staff were incredibly kind. A special thanks to Sumith for being so helpful and friendly. We also took a city tour through the hostel, guided by Ish, who showed us a lot of the city and made our visit to Kandy truly memorable. I highly recommend this tour!!!!

Wonderful Stay in Kandy

I spent a week at The Bunkalow and truly enjoyed my time there. The location is fantastic: easily accessible to the town while still providing the serene and tranquil environment of the Kandy hills. There are restaurants within walking distance, and getting food delivered was simple, so dining was never an issue. I even picked up some fruit for snacks, which worked out perfectly. The standout feature of the hostel is undoubtedly the staff. Sumit is one of the kindest individuals I encountered in Sri Lanka. His approach to hospitality is exceptional. He's incredibly attentive and seems to anticipate guests' needs before they even have to ask. During my stay, I heard numerous guests expressing their gratitude for him, which speaks volumes about his character. He truly embodies the spirit of the hostel, and the owners are fortunate to have him. The accommodations were also impressive—the beds were extremely comfortable, I had all the essentials, and the bathrooms were top-notch with hot showers, strong water pressure, and plenty of amenities, including tea and coffee. Tassy, the beloved pet, also deserves a special mention. She's such a lovely and affectionate animal. Be prepared to fall in love with her; it’ll be tough to leave her behind! The atmosphere varied; it can be a very social place or quite peaceful during the off-season. I visited in June and experienced both sides, which was ideal. I met many wonderful people during my stay. Overall, I had a fantastic experience and wholeheartedly recommend staying here if you're in Kandy. I would definitely return.
