    Serene Retreat with Great Food

This place offers a calm and relaxing atmosphere. It features seven comfortable, air-conditioned rooms, and the washrooms are clean and well-kept. A swimming pool provides a lovely view of the surrounding paddy fields, adding to the peaceful ambiance. While the approach road is along a gravel bund, the retreat does a good job of guiding guests safely. The food is delicious and flavorful, prepared with village spices, and the dining area allows for a pleasant view of a man-made pond. To the right of the property, there's a charming tank (wewa) that enhances its charm. It's also a great spot for birdwatching, particularly for dry zone birds. Overall, this retreat is definitely worth a visit, especially if you plan some activities in addition to what's already available.

    Charming lakeside retreat

This venue is located in a stunning area close to a lake and a large pond teeming with frogs and birds. There are walking paths around the hotel. The rooms are modestly decorated, aligning with the retreat’s philosophy. The swimming pool is delightful, and the Chef-Manager…

A peaceful escape with great service

I wish I could have stayed longer than just two nights at Malala, as it truly seems like a perfect retreat immersed in the sounds of nature, away from the chaos of daily life. I managed to spend one morning soaking in the tranquility of this beautiful place. Upon my late arrival, the staff was there to greet me, and I was genuinely impressed by their attentiveness. Fazar, in particular, stood out by waking up around 3:45am to prepare a sandwich for my safari trip. Their willingness to go the extra mile made my stay feel warm and welcoming. They even reheated my takeaway food and served me a sumptuous Sri Lankan breakfast, which felt like a feast! The hospitality was exceptional and very refreshing. My room and bathroom, which are very important to me, were spotless, and the bed was incredibly comfortable, allowing me to sleep soundly. I spent my last morning appreciating the surroundings, and it was definitely worth it. I look forward to returning to this lovely place and spending more time here. In short, it's a fantastic spot to escape and enjoy the peace of nature!

    Charming property with great service

The property is truly stunning, and Chef Fazal is both talented and gracious. We appreciate the delicious meals and the enjoyable company. Special thanks to Athula and Dinesh for their attentive care and kindness. We also took part in their bird watching boat safari, which was a relaxing experience where we spotted numerous birds.

    Lovely stay with helpful staff

We had such a wonderful time here. The staff really put in a lot of effort to maintain a clean and beautiful environment. It was fantastic to see monkeys nearby! While the restaurant doesn’t serve alcohol, there’s a fridge in the room if you want to bring your own. There’s a good variety of food on the menu. The main gentleman, who I believe was named Fazal, was incredibly helpful in arranging a safari and a boat trip for us. This place is a lovely, quiet little retreat that feels tucked away. My family and I truly enjoyed our stay.

Scenic Stay with Room for Improvement

The views of the rice paddy fields were stunning, and the rooms were tidy and straightforward. However, the service could use more warmth; the staff had limited English skills, though the chef, who also managed the place, communicated well. The food was tasty, especially for dinner, but we had to place our orders in advance. Breakfast was quite basic, with cold eggs and sausage. While I probably wouldn’t return, I can see why others might enjoy the tranquility. The natural surroundings were fantastic for bird watching, with peacocks and monkeys around. I enjoyed a peaceful walk through the rice paddies, which was very soothing. It made for a nice lead-up to our next two-night stay at Thalpe’s paddy villa.

Chef Fazal Samad was very courteous and helpful, while Dinesh and Athula provided exceptional service. We appreciated the serene atmosphere surrounded by nature. My kids particularly loved the rice paddy fields and the pool, not to mention the delicious pasta. Thank you for making our stay enjoyable and unforgettable.
