We wanted a peaceful spot to relax before our flight. Rather than heading to Colombo, we chose to stop in Kalutara, and it turned out to be a great decision! This place is absolutely wonderful. The garden is stunning, and the swimming pool is delightful.

I spent an extended period at Karls Holiday Bungalow, and it was truly excellent. The staff provided service that was filled with genuine kindness and attention. The food was freshly prepared and incredibly tasty. I loved the pool, which is absolutely amazing, and the hotel garden felt like a park, adorned with beautiful tropical plants and flowers. Having a kitchen and my own fridge was extremely helpful, giving me a sense of freedom with all the amenities. I want to extend my gratitude to the owner, the manager, and the staff for their dedication in making my long stay in Sri Lanka a memorable and enjoyable experience. Rosy

This is an ideal spot to savor the blend of beach and pool. I want to clarify, after seeing some reviews, that the beach is clean enough that I never thought about it being dirty during my three-day stay. It's a bit removed from the busy main street, yet close enough for a pleasant walk to find whatever you need. The staff here are incredibly lovely and accommodating, offering delicious food and drinks for those who prefer not to head to the supermarket. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience!

We stayed in the bottom bungalow, which was luxurious and equipped with a mosquito net, air conditioning, showers, a fridge, and an outdoor pool. The beach was just 20 meters away. Our hosts were very friendly and exceptional cooks. We enjoyed both dinner and breakfast, with the coconut roti and coco sambol being a standout. Highly recommended!

We spent four nights here relaxing after a 2000 km drive around the country. Like others have mentioned, the air conditioning and room quality were excellent, the pool was fantastic, and the sunset from our balcony was breathtaking. We purchased fresh fish from the beach and prepared it in the kitchen. The gardens, pool, rooms, and outdoor areas were well-maintained and enjoyable. Dill, the manager, was very helpful with local directions and even let us use the washing machine in the bungalow. Our car was safely parked off the street near our unit. Highly recommended.

We decided to leave right away and didn’t even spend a single night. The rooms were filthy, the sheets were stained, the kitchen looked like it hadn’t been cleaned since 1997, and I won’t even mention the condition of the toilet. The room had a smell reminiscent of a wet dog. When we brought these issues to the owner’s attention, he blamed other guests for the lack of cleanliness. Although he offered to cancel our stay, which we did through booking.com, he is refusing to accept it. This place is disgraceful. Don’t waste your money here. The location is also poor, situated on a beach littered with trash.

The room was decent, slightly outdated but kept very clean. Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi was absent in the room. On the bright side, the service was excellent. However, the location leaves much to be desired; the sea is quite polluted with a lot of litter, and there are no restaurants within walking distance.

Honestly, this wasn’t the best place to stay. We dealt with a lot of ants in our room, even in the bed. The shower had issues with mould and low pressure, plus there wasn’t much to do nearby. This might have been influenced by our timing, as it wasn’t high season and the place could still be recovering from storm or flooding damage. On the bright side, the pool was nice. Check-out was a hassle. The owner wasn’t around, and the staff struggled to understand us since they couldn’t speak English. Ultimately, we ended up leaving after being instructed to do so, even though we hadn’t paid yet. Later, the owner reached out so we could arrange a bank transfer, but we ended up paying more due to the transfer fees. Overall, the place shows promise, but it requires better cleaning, some upgrades, and perhaps staff who can assist with the check-out process.

Our experience at Karl Bungalow was incredible. We arrived at 10am on a Sunday after a long 24-hour journey, and the team welcomed us with a refreshing selection of fruits and drinks, making us feel immediately at home.
