    Remarkable Improvement in Service

This is a place I often visited from 1990 to 1998 to take care of my personal needs from Europe. I wasn't pleased with the hassle back then. However, after so many years, I returned today and noticed a remarkable difference in their service and quality—it’s like night and day. I arrived at 9:35 and was out the door with my cleared box by 10:10. I was genuinely amazed at how quickly they served me. Their friendly attitude really made my day. In the past, officials spoke rather harshly, but today, I could sense the change with well-educated and qualified staff. I feel proud of our government officials. I bow my head in respect and extend a huge bouquet of thanks to the staff today. Thank you, everyone! 🎉🎊🙌💐💐💐💐💐💐💐

    Service Lags During Lunch Hours

The service is acceptable, but between 1 PM and 2 PM, it seems like there's hardly anyone around, resulting in some delays in getting things done.

The central mail exchange serves as the primary hub for international parcel and courier services. Navigating the building can be a bit tricky, but if you're looking to release a foreign parcel, head to the first floor. For other postal services, you'll need to stop by the counter on the ground floor.

    Frustrating Lunch Service Experience

The service here was extremely disappointing! I didn’t realize that from 12:30 to 1:00, this place becomes a dead zone during lunch hours. As soon as it hit 12:30, the staff vanished for their breaks. Even before that time, they seemed to slow down and avoided taking on new customers. I visited during the festive season, thinking there might be fewer staff due to vacations, but that wasn’t the issue. After lunch, the place was bustling with staff. It seemed like they were doing some annual cleaning, as the cleaning crew started dusting the fans, sending dust flying everywhere. We were caught in it, and they didn’t even think to open a window. It felt like we were invisible to them during this supposed lunch break! As the lunch hour neared its end, they gradually returned to their desks, seemingly oblivious to our presence. Eventually, the customers began to line up, but they could have at least kept a few staff members available while others took their lunch. Overall, the service was terrible, showing no concern for the customers around them.

    Interesting postal history experience

This location serves as the headquarters for the Sri Lanka Postal Department and features both a museum and an auditorium. It's a great place to discover the history of Sri Lanka's postal system. The museum has some fascinating exhibits, while the auditorium is available for various events.

    Museum Closed on Saturdays Disappoints

I visited on a Saturday hoping to see the museum, but unfortunately, it’s only open during the weekdays. There was another visitor who came specifically for the museum and left feeling let down. It seems like museums everywhere else are open on weekends so that those who work and school-aged kids can enjoy them. I’m baffled by how this department operates, missing out on potential income. On a positive note, they offer lovely and unique postcards at very reasonable prices. There’s also a variety of stamps that you won’t find at other post offices. The staff was friendly, and they accepted card payments for both stamps and postcards. It’s a real shame that these beautiful stamps and postcards aren’t available at the main post offices in cities. I truly hope the administrators will address these issues and make necessary improvements so that those who still appreciate postal services don’t lose faith in the system entirely.

    Efficient Post Office Experience

The post office operates fairly well for a government facility. My experience relates specifically to picking up foreign parcels. The staff are friendly and accommodating, handling requests with good efficiency. However, it's best to avoid visiting between 11:30 and 1:30 if you're collecting parcels, as that's when they take their lunch break. If your tracking shows that your parcel is held by customs and you haven't received the pink slip, you can still retrieve it by requesting a new form. This will require a Rs. 50 stamp. I once received my slip about three weeks later during a period of strikes.

    Frustrating package pickup experience

They send you a pink letter instructing you to pick up your package yourself if they deem it taxable. You're expected to head to the post office with the right documents, but they're only open for a few hours on Saturdays, which is the only time most working individuals can actually visit. I went to the address listed in the letter, which was an old building on Janadhipathi Road, and to my surprise, there was no one there. After waiting for 15 minutes and feeling quite frustrated, I asked around 10 people for directions, and finally, a tuk-tuk driver offered to take me to the correct location. It turns out that the old post office had relocated a long time ago, yet they still hadn't updated their template letter. The irony is that the place responsible for delivering everyone else's packages can't even provide accurate directions to its own location. Lmao, government services. If you're in need, just search for mail exchange and go there instead.
