    Great stay with friendly staff

I really wish I could have extended my stay! Sumith and Rasangi were incredibly pleasant, always wearing smiles and eager to assist. I love to cook when I travel, and the kitchen was quite sufficient, featuring a reasonably sized refrigerator. Plus, the beach is just under 5 minutes away...

Great value stay near the beach

We originally booked a two-night stay but chose to add another night due to the fantastic value. The location is just a short walk to the beach, and having private rooms separate from the main house was a nice touch. The hosts were welcoming and always had a smile. The room itself is fairly basic, but honestly, it’s incredible for the price!

Spacious, quiet apartment in great location

We spent one night in January in a two-bedroom apartment that offered plenty of space. The location was excellent, easily accessible to everything, yet tucked away behind the shops on the main road, which kept the noise down. The owners were very welcoming. Overall, it was a fantastic deal. I would definitely stay here again.

Great value stay with minor heat issue

We spent two nights here and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the accommodation for such a low price. The place was very clean, featured a new and comfortable bed with a mosquito net, and had our own bathroom and a fan. However, it did get a bit warm due to the high ceiling, so the fan...

Well-Managed Guesthouse with Room for Improvement

Citadel is a well-run guesthouse where the hostess is genuinely friendly and accommodating. The price of 4000 LKR per night is quite reasonable, and the atmosphere allows for peace and quiet when needed. The "room with terrace" is located on the first floor and offers ample space with two rooms and a bathroom. There are other rooms with terraces as well, including one that opens to the backyard, shaded by a tree. It comes equipped with a kitchen featuring a gas stove, refrigerator, and essential cooking utensils. The bedroom includes a double bed with a mosquito net and a ceiling fan. However, even though the design is quite open, the rooms can get warm during the day and night, making it somewhat uncomfortable. A fan in the kitchen room would likely help with the heat. Additionally, despite being a few meters from the street, noise from buses can be heard as if they were right beside you. Unfortunately, the mosquito net didn’t effectively keep the bugs out, and we often found mosquitoes in the bed at night. Plus, the fine mesh of the net restricts airflow from the fan. The beach is conveniently just a short walk down the street.

Spacious and Comfortable with a Few Drawbacks

The room was spacious, equipped with good air conditioning and comfortable beds. However, the WiFi left much to be desired; it was so slow that we often opted to use our mobile data instead. This seems to be typical in Sri Lanka, particularly in hotels at this price point. We encountered the owners briefly, who were friendly. Still, a more informative welcome would have been appreciated, such as providing the room details, WiFi password, and contact information. We did arrive late at night, so someone was there to hand us the room key, which mitigated the issue somewhat. The location is great, right across from the beach and within walking distance to many restaurants. Just a heads-up: it’s situated on the main road, and our room faced the front, making it quite noisy due to traffic. I understand there are other rooms further back, but this was our experience in that particular room. Overall, I would consider staying here again (and perhaps bring earplugs!).

    Spacious and Affordable Stay

The accommodation was quite spacious; it featured a double bedroom, a living area, a kitchen, and a shower room, all for just £9.50 per night. There was no breakfast provided, and we hardly encountered any other guests during our stay, but that didn't bother us. The location is also quite good as it …

    Great stay with lovely owners

We just spent five nights here and enjoyed every aspect of our stay. Our room on the first floor had a great view of the main road and was quite spacious, complete with a small balcony. Despite being on the main street, the place felt very tranquil. It's perfectly situated across from the beach, with a nice variety of shops and restaurants right at our doorstep. The owners were incredibly kind, even letting us use their kitchen to brew our morning coffee. We highly recommend this place and would definitely consider staying again.
