Disappointing Sri Lankan Experience
It felt like a tourist trap. We picked this restaurant based on its positive reviews, but the food didn’t match the Sri Lankan cuisine we had enjoyed for the past two weeks. We were very let down. To add to our disappointment, it was pricier than usual.

Fantastic seafood by the beach
In my view, this place offers the finest seafood around. It was so impressive that we returned three times consecutively. Even the accompanying salad and mashed potatoes were divine. It’s an ideal location by the beach with fair prices and friendly staff. Everything was wonderful.

Delightful Seafood Dinner by the Beach
We've spent four days in Arugam Bay and have three more to go. We will definitely be heading back to Mermaid! We were in search of a seafood platter and had a wonderful dinner with our feet in the sand, enjoying views of the sea. The food and white wine were superb. We capped off the evening with cocktails, all at a very reasonable price. The staff took excellent care of us! We’ll be saying goodbye to the area there again! Thank you so much 🤗

Long Wait but Average Food
The wait for the whole fish took a considerable amount of time, ranging from 45 minutes to an hour on the barbecue. Fresh juices also took a while to arrive, despite the fact that we were nearly the only patrons in the restaurant. When the fish finally came, it was wrapped in aluminum foil that was tough to open without making a mess, and we weren't given any extra napkins or finger bowls. In terms of flavor, the fish was pretty average and overly salty from the marinade. The kottu was quite spicy, and the staff didn’t check if we had any spice preferences.

Delicious fish, noisy atmosphere
The fish was delightful, expertly seasoned and cooked to perfection, making the wait feel justified. However, the ambiance was somewhat disrupted by a few people singing karaoke poorly on the beach, though that's likely beyond the restaurant's control.

Delicious beachfront dining experience
We enjoyed fresh fish for dinner on the beachfront. The service was exceptionally friendly, and the grilled dishes were tasty. Highly recommended!
